Basic Graphs
« on: January 13, 2023, 10:52:06 AM »
Now it's on me to ask:
For that I have used Basic Graphs the last time maybe 10 years ago  ::) I want to know if it is possible to scale the web-output for this graphs? Predefined it is 314x232 px - can we export it to web with another resolution?  [computer]
Thanks in advance,
Reinhard

Hi Reinhard and WeatherCat users who like data visualized,

Now it's on me to ask:

Thanks in advance,

There is nothing in the manual on how you could scale them.  My display of all the WeatherCat tags shows all the graphs of the same size.  So my guess is that you cannot change the size of the basic graphs.

Anybody else have a different opinion?

Cheers, Edouard

Are you kidding me? You know more about the Cat than anyone other than Stu. In fact, I recall you being so appreciated you were once knighted by meteoperugia as Edouard the Great!

Thanks Blick and Edouard for your input. I asked because we can scale the basic graphs on the desktop to any size but we cannot scale the output to the web, obviously.  :-\

Cheers,
Reinhard

If you can resize those images on your desktop without seeing pixelation, then their resolution may be many multiples of the old standard 72/96ppi.

You try adding some "width" and "height" definitions in the img elements. I know in CSS but I think in html, you can get by with either "width" or "height" as long as you put "auto" as the dimension of the other.
In other words try:
Code: [Select]
<img src="Some_File_Path_Name" width="www" height="hhh" ... title="My Outstanding Basic Graph" >
By the way, resolution refers to the number of pixels per unit of measurement. It is only related to the image dimensions when talking about the size (dimensions) displayed on a particular device which will normally have a fixed resolution. A 96pixel X 96pixel image image will be ~1 inch square on a screen set to 96ppi resolution. Back in the luggable Macintosh, that same image would be ~33% larger since it used 72ppi (I think it did, anyway! [lol] ). Although it's the same image, the pixels are different sizes on different devices.  ;D

Many thanks also to xair. I am familiar with html and css, using only BBEdit for my weather-site. What I want isn't to scale something via height & width, I would prefer it to output it from WeatherCat in the desired size (like we were able to define a size similar to the custom graphs).
See attached screenshot with the original output from WeatherCat and the same graph scaled with css.

Update: Sorry for the really big screenshot...  :o :-[

My bad, I must have confused your posts with another members who said (I thought!) he could enlarge the graphs without pixelation. [banghead] Obviously, the resolution is not suitable for enlarging as much as we might like, even with the OS's antialiasing help. [coffee]

Reminds me of my wife asking me to print a larger version of some not quite sharp image sent by a friend. The 'original' is usually quite small and at <72ppi. They are also usually a copy, of a screen shot, of a scanned newspaper (remember those) picture! cmu:-) "Sure, I can enlarge it, but you'll have to stand a few feet away to get the best image." [lol] Our super high resolution screens have spoiled us! Digital's still not as fine-grained as film (speaking of memories!!).

Does the developer ever chime in on threads like these?

You mean like this one yesterday?

Try using https://athena.trixology.com/index.php?action=unread

Not sure what you use as your WC "home page" but it should have a "Show unread posts since last visit." link beside your avatar near the top of the page. Be sure you have the extremely-hard-to-see-displsy-avatar/info-arrow (see second image below) 'pointing up'. [rolleyes2]

Yes, like that one, but in these threads where folks need help.

I'm sure Stu has a rather lengthy list of known problems and an only slightly shorter list of ides/changes/requests. I doubt he minds 'reminders' about things we have already mentioned. Those might help boost the counts about specific things he is already, or needs to start, working on. I can't remember the last time he complained about too many posts/threads/"when-are-you-going-to-fix-X". ;D
