Admin emails not working after computer move
« on: August 06, 2022, 01:55:03 PM »
I had been running WeatherCat on an ageing Mac Mini which finally gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago. I decided to buy a brand new Mac Mini to run only WeatherCat.

I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything from the old Mini, but since the transfer, I cannot get Admin emails to work. I get the following message ...

Error: (/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools), missing xcrun at: /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/bin/xcrun

Has anyone else come across this before?

Same thing here and it should work. I got a new 24 inch imac m1 and all that, I can't send them either.  So..?

I managed to resolve this problem by installing Xcode, of which xcrun is a part. All now working correctly.

OMG!  After months of trying to have the email function work, I downloaded Xcode and it now WORKS!  I have no idea what Xcode is or why it works but .....  this solved my problem!

Thanks

Xcode is a compiler/app-builder for dozens of programming and scripting languages. It installs code and scripting languages that Apple no longer installs with the newest OS (12). I think it is great that your WC email is now working, but it is rather a sledge hammer approach if you don't need any of the terrabytes gigabytes of code included with Xcode. You could install only a version of PHP (for example) that may be all you really need. And you can then recover a lot of disk space. I seem to remember that many had FTP problem with newer OS's due to the lack of PHP. I believe WC uses cURL, a php method in FTP. Eye mai bee rong, howevur.

yes, it's taking up a lot of SSD space.  so ....  mind giving me instructions on how to remove the parts I don't need?

First we might want to confirm a few things:
  • Exactly what part of the Xcode install fixed your original problem? You can use Terminal to determine which version(s) of php you have installed (assuming that was the 'solution').
  • Do you feel competent to re-install that particular component? Are you comfortable working in Terminal?
Here are three sites that have steps to completely remove Xcode:
Please read through those few pages.

Step one is always have a bootable backup before making any important changes to your System files.

It may be easiest to simply move the app and its .plist. I suggest only moving, not deleting these files as a second step.

thanks ...  to be honest, I'm not comfortable using terminal.  I do have a program called TrashMe that supposedly will completely delete an app and associated files.

can you elaborate on MOVING files if that seems to be an option.
or better yet, is there a source to only download the files that are in Xcode that seem to have solved my problem?

again, I appreciate your help.  I'm sure you have many better things to do!

OK ...  after a little thinking, I'm going to leave things as they are.  everything is working, I have a 4TB SSD that still has 2TB of free space so I'm good for now.  It's a good day to have WC working as expected.

once again, I appreciate your guidance.
