CWOP and latest OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 update
« on: March 27, 2016, 09:21:27 AM »
Help! I've just discovered that since I upgraded to OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 on 23 March 2016 my CWOP site isn't receiving data...any suggestions please? Have tried stopping and restarting it and although status shows 'running' no reports are being sent or acknowledged.  :(

I don't have an explanation for you. I'm running WeatherCat Version 2.3.1 Beta Build 72 with OS 10.11.4 and it's uploading right on schedule to CWOP and the graphs show no breaks. When using the Search CWOP Members List function (http://www.wxqa.com/search.htm), do you still show up? If so, maybe an e-mail to the site (Philip Gladstone) would be in order.

Thanks for that...yes I am still showing but if I click on 'complete list of packets...' this is the response "Sorry, no data found for EW1701" etc
I'll do as you suggest and send an email to Philip Gladstone...thanks again, will post the response.

<snip> ... although status shows 'running' no reports are being sent or acknowledged.

Re-reading your OP, I might have misunderstood what you meant by "status."

Were you talking about Log in the Tools menu?

Here's what mine shows:

 10:54:02 27-Mar-2016:  CWOP: Starting connection...
10:54:02 27-Mar-2016:  CWOP: Trying to connect to cwop.aprs.net.
10:54:03 27-Mar-2016:  CWOP: Connecting to cwop.aprs.net.
10:54:07 27-Mar-2016:  CWOP: Sending data to cwop.aprs.net. Success.
10:54:10 27-Mar-2016:  CWOP: Finished.
10:54:10 27-Mar-2016:  CWOP: Next transmission in 11 minutes and 10 seconds.

Hi, no, I was actually referring to the Preferences On-Line CWOP screen which shows 'current status:' etc. Everything else is working fine - Wunderground, Met Office. Had no response to my email yet, but it is Easter...:)
Am actually in the process of creating a web page which is working successfully when I test it locally. I put links in to my sites and that was how I discovered it hadn't updated on CWOP since 23rd. Think I have server sorted out but I'm new to things like that - hopefully learning fast! (Was a Cobol programmer back in the good old days, just a little different :) )

Dear kenwen, Felix, and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Help! I've just discovered that since I upgraded to OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 on 23 March 2016 my CWOP site isn't receiving data...any suggestions please? Have tried stopping and restarting it and although status shows 'running' no reports are being sent or acknowledged.  :(

Is there anything next to the word "Running" on the preference page?  It should indicate which server it is trying to connect to.  If it doesn't look at what the advanced setting show.  As a precaution, you might try pressing the "Reset to factory defaults" button on the Advanced Settings preference page.  That should resolve any problems with the CWOP servers somehow having gotten corrupted somehow.

Let us know if you discover anything.

Cheers, Edouard

Good morning Edouard.
Nothing against 'Running' on preference page, and 'Reports sent' and 'Acknowledgements' just above both show as 0. I checked the Advanced settings yesterday and all seemed the same as when I first connected to it in January. I had also pressed the 'Restore Factory Defaults' but nothing changed on the page as a result. Server 1 is cwop.aprs.net Port 14580 and the others follow as first.aprs.net etc. Update time is 10 mins and there is a passcode of -1.
Regards Wendy

If there are no transmissions, then they won't be receiving anything. I think the last time we saw this the issue was a bad preferences file - try creating a new one.

To create a new preferences file:
Quit WeatherCat.

Access your preferences folder by using the Finder's Go->Go To Folder... menu command and enter:
~/Library/Preferences/

Scroll down the list of preferences files until you find the one named:
com.trixology.weathercat.plist

Delete (or rename) this file then reboot the machine and launch WeatherCat.

Note that the reboot after removing the old preferences file is important - without this, the old settings may hang about in memory.

Note also that all your preferences will be reset to factory defaults, so make a note of any settings you need to re-enter such as the latitude/longitude etc. before doing this. Also note that it is very important to reboot the machine after removing the existing preferences file. If the settings aren?t set back to factory defaults when you relaunch WeatherCat, then repeat the procedure.
