Yet another Trojan: flashmail adware
« on: June 13, 2015, 05:57:51 PM »
A recent Trojan installs things that may cause unexpected pop-up adds/windows, unwanted web pages, etc. It has to be downloaded, and it then has to be installed with the user's help (you can usually see who that user is by looking in a mirror 'site', like the one in most bathrooms). Of course, you were not told that the trojan would installed, along with whatever 'must-have' app you thought you were installing. [banghead]

It is fairly easy to remove, either manually or by using an AdwareMedic. Trojans seldom come with Un-installers... [rolleyes2] Manual removal instructions are at <MacIssues> including a link to AdwareMedic.

Was it this one?

Oracle extends its adware bundling to include Java for Macs

For years, Oracle has tormented Windows users by bundling adware with its Java installer for Windows PCs. Now Oracle has begun including the same adware as part of a default installation of Java for the Mac, using the same deceptive techniques.

Not sure what your question is, but Java has often been described as a Trojan! It's very seldom needed on any non-enterprise Mac and I usually keep it off mine. Thanks for this info, I'll certainly think thrice next time something asks me to update Java! [banghead] In my humble opinion, javascript has a pretty bad reputation also, but I doubt we'd have many templates for our data if we completely blocked it. [rolleyes2]
