Current Conditions Calculator
« on: November 14, 2014, 02:04:23 AM »
In WeatherCat 2 we can have up to three variables involved in calculating a weather condition. At the top of my list, I added a rule that says:

If Ext Temperature is less than or equal to 33.0˚ F AND if Precipitation Per Hour is greater than 0.0 inches/ hour THEN Current Condition is Snow.

This rule did not trigger Snow all day, even though the temperature never exceeded 33˚ F and the ISS recorded .09 inch of melted snow in the rain cup.

Why didn't the condition ever display Snow?

Thanks.

Blick,

I don't have an answer to your question, but I would like to know if there is a standard set of formulae that result in a statement of "Current Conditions." It would be a nice addition to WeatherCat for iPhone and WeatherCat for iPad (WeatherCatPad).

Best guess is you didn't achieve a rain rate (i.e. time between bucket tips was too long to be able to calculate the rate).

You could use the default rules in WeatherCat, but that would only work if there were no user rules present (and the language was English).

What we really need is for the current conditions string to be sent in the protocol. I'll add this to the todo list for either 2.1 or a later 2.x release.

Yes! This would be a very nice improvement to the iOS app.
