anemometer stopped recording wind

It stopped recording wind speed yesterday. No wind anyway. Today stormy with some wind, so I knew the cups weren't moving. The anemometer is 5 feet above my chimney, hate height on a ladder. It was a spider web stopping the cups from moving.

Unfortunately, spider webs can be a common issue with anemometers. I've seen some webs wrapped around the cups that must have been spun by a spider that would scare J.R.R. Tolkien. Be careful on that ladder!

Sorry you had to climb up to find out what the problem, but glad it wasn't anything more serious.  For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere it might be a good time to consider doing your annual station maintenance.  We have a checklist on the Wiki:

You can also set up an email reminder in WeatherCat (Preferences->Misc 2->Station Maintenance)
