Dear WeatherCat Davis station caregivers,

Davis recommends that you leave your console in setup mode when performing maintenance of your weather instruments. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent way to prevent erroneous data from getting onto a data logger that is installed in a Weather Envoy. I realized that there is a simple alternative. After all maintenance is complete, you can clear the data logger using the WeatherLink for Mac software that came with the data logger. Unfortunately, Davis's choice of terms is hardly clear and the WeatherLink manual doesn't help much.  So I decided to write up the procedure on the WeatherCat wiki:

So hopefully that is clear enough!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

P.S. Don't hesitate to double-check me on this though.  In those ominous words of Bugs Bunny . . . . "I could be wrong you know!"

Nice writeup for Envoy users. There is no compelling reason to hang onto the Davis software if you are a Vantage 2 user.

Dear Blick and WeatherCat Davis caregivers, . . . .

There is no compelling reason to hang onto the Davis software if you are a Vantage 2 user.

Well, . . . . I think the only certain claim that can be made is that there isn't any - known - compelling reason to hang on to WeatherLink if you don't have an Envoy.

Da' Packrat in me suggests that you hang on to that software anyway . .. . . just in case! [banghead]

It isn't like having an extra 2.2 MBs is going to hurt you on the hard drives we have these days.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

I have hung onto mine for 8 years now and never even pulled it out of the box. And I don't think they have upgraded it in 8 years. It still looks like they kludged it together back in the days when DOS was king 'o the mountain. I still think they make good hardware but they haven't spent more than 20 quid on the software, at least for OS X users.
