Hi WeatherCat Gang
Ok I am looking to buy a VP2 plus next week
I found it on the web for $635.00 and the Weather Link Mac for $108.00
Does any one know where I can get a better price than this?
thanks
[cheers1]

Randall,
You probably already know this, but the best deals I know are the email prices at Archer Trading Post and Rainman Weather. They are well below advertised prices. Davis does not allow advertising below their suggested price, which is why you need to look around.
Here's a link to the special discount page for each:

http://www.rainmanweather.com/site/Davis-Best-Price-Quote
Which VP2 are you getting?
[EDIT] Ah, it looks like you are already using Rainman's price, and getting the 6162 VP2+ with standard radiation shield. Nice! [tup] It looks like you could save 3-5 dollars by talking them into swapping the Mac version of WeatherLink in the package price.

Hi Steve
Thanks for the info but my price are from scienctific sales just trying to save as many bucks as I can
cheers

Congratulations Randy! Nice upgrade from the LC.
Looks to me like you have done your homework. I checked three other places and the price you have is lower.
-
When I was shopping for my VP2 this past Spring Scientific Sales had the price prices I could find. I've dealt with them many times, always pleased. And if any future items were slightly higher, I still chose Scientific Sales because of the ole trustworthiness-and-familiarity thing. Their prices overall were either at or near the lowest.

Hi WeatherCat Gang

Cool beans! So, was it larger than you expected when you took it out of the box? I was sure surprised when I opened mine.
Nice looking installation.

Congratulations on getting it all installed Randall [rockon]
Do you notice much of a difference between the VP2 and the 2300?
-
Hi Randall and WeatherCat Davis elite club members,
VP 2 Plus up and running
Great job Randall!!
Your installation is simply and straight-foward, but definitely looks like you should be able to collect data as well as anyone - good job! [tup]
Could you give us a quick description of how your set up your new station on the Weather station installation examples (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=969.0) thread?
So far the only examples we have over there are so complex that some folks might run away screaming because they are afraid of heights! :o
Congrats Randall!!

Hi Stu and WC gang
Stu the Vp2 has a lot more things to play with, I have them mounted side by side to compare them for a while the only difference in the readings are VP temp 55 LC 54.3 Humidity Vp 40 LC 39 Pressure Vp 30.08 Lc 30.07 Wind Vp 4 Lc 3.7 and like I said there are so much more things on the VP to use.
Question should I install the weather link software on my computer?
Edouard I will try to put some about the installation over there
thanks
cheers
[cheers1]
-
Randall, you'll only need WeatherLink to set up an Envoy (mainly barometric pressure and extra stations).
-
Hi Stu
Thanks
I knew I didn't it to run WC But read that manual but didn't see what good it was
thanks for the rely
cheers

Everyone says to hang on to your WeatherLink install CD but I'm not sure why. I think the chances of you using it are nil.

Dear Blick and WeatherCat tempters of . . . . . . (http://www.canebas.org/Weather/LWC_forum/Custom_emoticons/devil.gif)
Everyone says to hang on to your WeatherLink install CD but I'm not sure why. I think the chances of you using it are nil.
So you want to find out why to hang on to the WeatherLink CD? That's easy!! Just throw it away and . . . . . find out!! (http://www.canebas.org/Weather/LWC_forum/Custom_emoticons/D%27oh.gif)

Remember:
Yes, how could I forget? However, I will point out to you that holding on to my WeatherLink disk did nothing to help me out there. :)

Hi Blick,Edouard and WC Fans
OK I will just put it with the other 10.000 disc I have collected over the pass 15 years I have them clear back with my first iMac 2.33 with a 4 gig HD actually the one buried in the garage was even smaller than that can't remember what size the HD was on it everything had to go on floppy disc

Hi Randall, Blick, and WeatherCat fans,

*Heavy sigh*, the perils of being a packrat is the extent to which you can easily become overwhelmed with - STUFF!! In such cases you can have a scenario that is even worse than throwing something away that you'll need later: you've got the thing somewhere and can't find it!!
Not exactly by intention, but I have a copy of WeatherLink on my computer because I did try it - very briefly - before switching to WeatherCat's ancestor. It might be easier to just install it on your hard drive and promptly forget about it. Disk space is dirt cheap and should you ever need WeatherLink, you'll know where to look.

Hi edouard
Thats a good idea install it and for get a bout [biggrin]

After you install WeatherLink, but before you forget about it, be sure to do one thing. Otherwise, it won't work when you launch it, and you won't remember why.
- Select the WeatherLink application in the finder. (Applications --> Mac OSX WeatherLink)
- Get Info (Command-I)
- Tick the "Open in 32-bit mode" checkbox.
- Close Info window.

Now you can forget about it. ;)

Howdy Steve and WeatherCat procrastinators,

. . . . . .
You are so right Steve!! Thanks for reminding us all! [tup]
Now you can forget about it. ;)
And that was precisely the trouble - I had forgotten about it!! :-[
Thanks again,

Steve:
Thanks for this tip from a while back. You just saved a buddy of mine a nice chunk of change on a new VP2. He's upgrading from a low-end PWS (with a usually non-functioning anemometer) from LaCrosse.
