Title: Please check my WeatherCat Wiki entry on moving WeatherCat
Post by: elagache on September 02, 2013, 11:01:00 PM
Dear WeatherCat faithful,

Doc has asked a question that comes up reasonably often: how do move WeatherCat from one computer to another.  We really need a write-up that we can point to for this one so I just wrote one up in haste on the WeatherCat Wiki:

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Moving_a_WeatherCat_installation_from_one_computer_to_another (http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Moving_a_WeatherCat_installation_from_one_computer_to_another)

Could everybody please read it over and either correct any mistakes I've made using the Wiki, or at least post here what's wrong and what's the correction.

Please don't use this text to actually make a migration until everyone else gives the green light.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Looks good, Edouard!

Only things I see missing are ~/Documents/WeatherCatExports and ~/Documents/WeatherCatReports

Another way to (temporarily) show the ~/Library folder is to hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu in the Finder.

If the installation uses Davis' WeatherLink software (for initial setup of WLIP and/or Envoy) be sure to copy those files across, too, in case WeatherLink is needed again for some reason.

Just for clarity:

This:
~/Library/WeatherCatData
~/Library/WeatherCatBackups
~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatCustomWeb
~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatMedia
~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatTemp
~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatWeb
~/Library/Preferences/com.trixology.weathercat.plist
~/Documents/WeatherCatExports
~/Documents/WeatherCatReports

Might be easier to read than this:
~/Library/WeatherCatData, ~/Library/WeatherCatBackups, ~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatCustomWeb, ~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatMedia, ~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatTemp, ~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatWeb, ~/Library/Preferences/com.trixology.weathercat.plist, ~/Documents/WeatherCatExports, ~/Documents/WeatherCatReports

Thanks for the fix on the WL data files and software. I keep forgetting everyone isn't using a VP2 or Vue. ;)

I just want to say that an article to this already exists: http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Installation_And_Requirements

Just my two cents,
Reinhard
Title: Which page to keep? (Re: Check my WeatherCat Wiki entry)
Post by: elagache on September 04, 2013, 08:08:02 PM
Hi Steve, Reinhard, and WeatherCat fans,

Just for clarity:
. . . .

Actually I wanted this too but didn't know how to produce the effect using the Wiki formatting language.  I just looked it up.  It wasn't hard and it now looks like that:

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Moving_a_WeatherCat_installation_from_one_computer_to_another

I just want to say that an article to this already exists: http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Installation_And_Requirements

D'oh!!!!!  (http://www.canebas.org/Weather/LWC_forum/Custom_emoticons/D%27oh.gif)

I had a nagging feeling this had already been done, but I had no idea where it was.  I should have done a text search.

However, this new Wiki entry is a much more complete description of the process than the old.  Any objections to removing the text on the Installation page and instead putting a link to the new one?

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Sorry ... I think Stu itself made this entry...

But why not: Double is less trouble.  :)

Cheers,

Hi Reinhard and WeatherCat fans,

Sorry ... I think Stu itself made this entry...

I just checked the revision logs and only Stu has ever edited this page.  So I'll leave things as is until Stu chime's in with an opinion.  The alternative is to delete my new page and put all that stuff where Stu has located it.

Dumb situation, but what can you do?  (http://www.canebas.org/Weather/LWC_forum/Custom_emoticons/confused_do_no.gif)

Everybody, I want to thank you all for the help here.  I have successfully migrated from the one computer to the other now, and the software is also up to date as well.  YAY and  [woohoo]  I still have problems with the webcam, it's not updating.  But I'll work on that later.  Besides that's an EvoCam issue.

And once again WC is working 100%

Thanks
Doc

Nice work folks - I've linked to the new page from the installation page  [tup]

(Sorry for the delay in getting here, have been over Edinburgh all week at a workshop working very long days for my day-job. Nice to be home  :) )

Howdy Stu, Randall, Doc, and WeatherCat fans,

Nice work folks - I've linked to the new page from the installation page  [tup]

Well, glad it finally all worked out, but do hope this is the last case of: those who fail to find something in the Wiki being condemned to rewrite it!  [goofy]

Sounds like you took your vacation just before a big push.  Glad that's over!

Glad it all worked out fine!  It really isn't difficult, but it is a case where to avoid problems you have got to get very detail correct.
