We are pleased to announce the release of WeatherCat 3.3.1.
Changes since version 3.3.0 are as follows:
1. Fixed a crash that could occur with WH1080, WH3080, WMR88 and WMR200 stations when running on MacOS 15 or later.
WeatherCat V3.3.1 is available for immediate download (https://data.trixology.com/downloads/WeatherCat3.dmg) or if you are running WeatherCat V3.0.0 or later, you can wait for the update notification within WeatherCat to auto update.
In addition, a universal build (AppleSilicon/Intel) of the MacOS client application is now available for download (https://data.trixology.com/downloads/WeatherCatClient330.zip).

Many thanks - running happily on a Mac Mini M2 running Sequoia 15.2

Dear Stu and WeatherCat faithful,
We are pleased to announce the release of WeatherCat 3.3.1.
Thank you Stu! (https://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/thanks_sign.gif) I'm sure getting any work on WeatherCat is quite a struggle these days! (https://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/writing%20emoticon.gif)
WeatherCat V3.3.1 is available for immediate download (https://data.trixology.com/downloads/WeatherCat3.dmg) or if you are running WeatherCat V3.0.0 or later, you can wait for the update notification within WeatherCat to auto update.
It has been a while since I've allowed WeatherCat to announce that an update is available, so I think I'll wait. After all, [wink] "no one should install an update before its time . . . . " [biggrin]

Thanks for the update and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.
Although the fix in this release wasn't relevant for my setup, I like being on 'the latest' ::) so did push the 'WC - Check for Update' on my Mac Mini 2018 with Sonoma 14.7.2. It indeed presented the option to upgrade to V3.3.1.
Once it completed installing the update I was (to my surprise) presented with the 'initial setup' screens. Turns out my com.trixology.weathercat.plist file was replaced with a fresh one!
I guess this is not what it should do, or?
Anyway, quickly putting back the plist from a backup solved the problem, but be warned.

Like Jos, this is not a version for my setup, but I waited for the prompt to come around to install the upgrade. After WC shut down, it never restarted with the new version. I then downloaded it using Stu's link above. It came up fine, with my plist intact.
Thanks for the update Stu, and Happy New Year wishes to you and all WeatherCatters.
Computer: 2019 27" iMac Retina 5K, 3.8 GHz Intel i9, 40 GB RAM
OS: macOS 13.7.2 Ventura
Hardware: Davis wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus, original WeatherLink IP data logger
Software: WeatherCat version 3.3.1 Build 8
-
I also downloaded the new Client app and it runs perfectly.
-
Thanks for the update, Stu.
Like Blicj11 I waited for the prompt - and other as for him it worked for me from the automated shutdown, downloading and restarting like a charm. New Years wishes also from my side to Stu and all the forum members.

I received the prompt to update WeatherCat to 3.3.1 version. Downloaded and now Weathercat crashes (sbod) when it gets to "Generic XML driver initializing". (Screenshot of log attached).
I have a Davis Vantage Vue console and feed weather comms into a Mac Mini running Sonoma. I have tried restarting the computer, unplugging and reconnecting the Vantage Vue, connecting data logger to different USB port to no avail. I have downloaded the Silicon Labs driver as per another suggestion in this forum but it made no difference. I am not sure but it is possible that this issue began after I installed the Silicon Labs driver, but WeatherCat was not transferring data prior to that so it did not solve the issue.
For what it is worth: apparently at 10:57 p.m. (PST) last night data comms failed and our weather station went offline. I assumed I needed to install the update as per the prompt I got this morning. The first time I tried installing the update the data was still not reporting so I opened communications; I tried changing the station driver from Columbia Micro Server (which was displayed when I opened the communications panel) to Davis Vantage Vue and at that point Weathercat froze crashed. Since then I have been unable to get past the "Generic XML driver Initializing".
I appreciate any help you can provide. Our station has been working for many many years now and I've been able to resolve the few issues that have arisen with help from this forum. This issue has me stumped!

Dear 2blue and WeatherCat troubleshooters,
I received the prompt to update WeatherCat to 3.3.1 version. Downloaded and now Weathercat crashes (sbod) when it gets to "Generic XML driver initializing". (Screenshot of log attached).
. . .
There have been other users with similar problems. Apparently the best solution can be found in this posting:
https://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=3579.msg34358#msg34358 (https://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=3579.msg34358#msg34358)
It requires first replacing your preference file. Make sure to carry out all the steps described in this WeatherCat Wiki posting:
https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_a_backup_of_your_WeatherCat_preferences_file (https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_a_backup_of_your_WeatherCat_preferences_file)
Then you need to replace your data with a valid backup. The backup could come either from a system-wide backup (like Apple's Time Machine,) or WeatherCat's own backup facility.
A number of users have reported success after performing both tasks.
Let us know if you also are able to restore reliability through this procedure.

I let Weathercat auto-update to 3.3.1, and it started crashing repeatedly. It would load, and even charts would load, then it would crash, they would disappear, and I'd get a massive Mac crash dump. I have tried everything, including reverting back to the 3.3.0 app, to my backup plist and databases from the day before, and rebooting. At this point, it just tries to launch three times in a row, and nothing happens. Dead in the water right before a massive storm hit tomorrow. Murphy's law. ;)
Can anyone please help? Restoring plist carefully as well as backup data and 3.3.0 app to get back where it was has just made things worse it appears. All was working perfectly before today, and for years.
Edit: I should add I'm on Sequoia 15.2 (24C101)
Thanks,
Greg

IT WORKED! Elagache--thank you so much for the detailed solution and the links necessary to resolve the issue. I deleted the plist and installed a backup copy as per your directions and all is up and running. To everyone on this forum who shares issues and solutions--thank you so much. It's a great community!

Have you replaced your preference file by following the procedure on the WeatherCat Wiki to the letter?
https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_a_backup_of_your_WeatherCat_preferences_file (https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_a_backup_of_your_WeatherCat_preferences_file)
Unfortunately, MacOS has a preference caching scheme that will replace your pristine backup of the WeatherCat preference file with the corrupted version if you aren't very careful. Let us know if being meticulous ultimately solves your problem.

Working fine here!

I too have issues with the 3.3.1 release. Once installed and restarted the 24 hr charts displayed 4 hours of weather data from cache, then froze. An hour later, I restarted again to see 2 1/2 hours of cache, but I noticed that all 7 day charts are complete. Hope that helps Stu to find the bugger.
Waiting for an update. My station was down for a month due to computer issues. I had just got it sorted Sunday night and when it was running with all weather data, unfortunately I decided take the update challenge. [banghead]
EDIT: Restarted WC just now, after it sitting frozen. It populated the same data on the 7 day charts. No change from earlier. The 24 hr charts have nothing. The gages have always been set to 0 since the update.
Wed., Jan. 8, 2025 Edit: This may be germane, but what a surprise. My UPS feeding my weather computer was suddenly alarming, so I skimmed across a short of possible causes list, since no other power sources were harmed by by the issue. Since the computer was still powered (without WC operational), I shut it down then shut down the UPS. 30 seconds later, I powered everything back and WC was auto-booted after the startup sequence. WC was ALIVE! It's alive, I tell you! All systems back to normal. I don't know what happened. A ghost update? Edouard, Devine intervention, perhaps? I have no clue, and perhaps it should be. I want to thank you, whoever's responsible, providence, Edouard or GOD, thank you, thank you, thank you. Herb
If you do know what happened, or just a theory, message me. - Herb

Hi Herb!
Long time no post. Nice to have you back. Sorry for the circumstances though.

Does WeatherCat show any signs of trying to download the data from the Davis Data logger? If it "thinks" it has downloaded the data already, it won't try again.
The only thing I can think of is to try to use some backup data from the time before you had a problem. I think you would have to use a data backup like Time Machine. WeatherCat only keeps 7 days worth of backup.
I would suggest that you try replacing the preference file using the tried and true procedure here on the WeatherCat Wiki:
https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_a_backup_of_your_WeatherCat_preferences_file (https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_a_backup_of_your_WeatherCat_preferences_file)
Then try restarted WeatherCat using the backup data source.
Let us know if that helps you at all.

Bull Winkus! Great to read a post from you again. Glad you are back up and running. I attribute your luck to all those batteries you bought at Costco a few years ago.

I have successfully updated WeatherCat to 3.3.1 via the WeatherCat Dialog Update Button seen on the desktop update notification I received.
I am running WeatherCat on a legacy iMac mid 2011 12,1 with OS Mojave 14.1 from 2018.
This iMac's purpose is solely to run our weather station 24/7.
I did make a backup of the previous version's WeatherCat plist, however, it was not necessary for my system to automatically complete the update.
