Title: Custom Alerts error?
Post by: HappyNerd on November 17, 2023, 07:29:37 PM
I am creating Custom Alerts in WeatherCat Preference and I noticed I didn't get the result from CG$ (for Wind Gust). CG$ didn't work in alert. Also, for average wind, notice there's C in the result. In alert, I set it up the template like this:

WeatherCat Rule 'N$' cleared at t$.
Weather conditions for L$:
Current Conditions: C$
Temperature: T$ Dewpoint: D$ Windspeed: W$ Pressure: P$
Wind Gust: CG$
Average Wind: CW$
Wind Speed Change: dW$

-----------

The message I got from WeatherCat:

***Custom Alert Clear for FitzWeather***

WeatherCat Rule 'High Wind warning' cleared at 15:36:21 16-Nov-23.
Weather conditions for 17049 Everest Path:
Current Conditions: Scattered Clouds
Temperature: 65.6°F Dewpoint: 45.9°F Windspeed: 7.0 MPH Pressure: 29.471inHg
Wind Gust: CG$
Average Wind: C7.0 MPH
Wind Speed Change: -2.0 MPH/h

User Text: Automated message from WeatherCat.

Is there a way I can fix this? Am I using the wrong code for those 2 errors?
Let me know. Thanks!
TIM

In the "fine print" below the Text Entry box there is a list of items that can be "substitut[ed] in the email text". In my version of the app, I don't see "CW$" listed in those items. Possibly because the [send] alert doesn't allow for any specifying period of time like the "Clear" alert function?

Perhaps you can just use the "W$"?

Frankly, I'm not having much luck while testing various 'wind' values in a Custom Alert window. I did get one email from an alert I created, but it did not have any value for actual or average wind. Since that one email, nothing I try gets any email sent (nor an "Error" message), despite the fact that the "Test" dialog claims "Alert Triggered". [computer] [banghead] ::)
Title: Check page 155 of the WeatherCat manual. (Re: Custom Alerts error?)

Dear Tim and WeatherCat feature-o-holics,

Thanks for posting your difficulties.  X-Air has basically already pointed to the problem.  Alas, it appears you have confused some of the Custom Web tags with the tags that are available for Custom Alerts.  There is no code for wind gust at all.  That is why your CG$ ends up just appearing as text.  The only available code for wind is W$ and that returns the current wind speed only.  That is why you have a C in front of a wind speed.

All this is documented on page 155 in the current WeatherCat manual.

I hope that clarifies the situation.

Tim:

You can create a Custom Text Window (CTW), which will display both average wind speed and wind gust. It won't send you an alert, but you can view the current value of the variables in the CTW. See pages 44-45 and 209 in the manual.

Ah - difference between Custom Alert and CTW variables. Thanks for your reply.
