Title: New Davis Instruments Console
Post by: Chet on January 16, 2023, 05:11:58 PM
Davis is releasing a beautiful new console in February. I wonder if it will be able to connect to weathercat. I currently have an old Davis console connected to my iMac through a usb converter.

Here is all we know today:

I'm guessing WeatherCat would require serious changes to be compatible, but what to I know? Nothing, as most of you already know.

A little plug here - you can have your own new console for only a few dollars. Display your customized WeatherCat data on your iPad or Mac with WeatherCatPad. Select what data to display, how to display it (numerical, gauge, etc.), and where to display it.

WeatherCatPad runs on an iPad and Mac and is optimized for Apple Silicon.

Title: Is new console like WeatherLink-live ? (Re: New Davis Instruments Console)

Dear Chet, Blick, Grand, and WeatherCat Davis fans,

Davis is releasing a beautiful new console in February. I wonder if it will be able to connect to weathercat. I currently have an old Davis console connected to my iMac through a usb converter.

You have do to some digging to get an answer to this question I think.  Here is a page describing how the new console connects to your Davis Weather Instruments:

https://www.davisinstruments.com/pages/data-collection (https://www.davisinstruments.com/pages/data-collection)

If I am reading this correctly, the console receives data directly from your instruments like the old console.  The difference is that you cannot attach any sort of data logger to get data from the instruments into your computer directly.  Instead, the new console can upload data to WeatherLink cloud storage:

https://www.weatherlink.com/ (https://www.weatherlink.com/)

At the moment, the 3.20 beta of WeatherCat (https://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=3264.0) can only download data from the WeatherLink-Live device:

https://www.davisinstruments.com/pages/weatherlink-live (https://www.davisinstruments.com/pages/weatherlink-live)

The 64 dollar question is whether or not the new console has the same sort of IP device interface as the WeatherLink-Live device.  If it does, then the 3.20 beta of WeatherCat can already work with it.

We will just have to wait for more information to come out to see exactly how this new Davis product actually works under the hood.

Cheers, Edouard

Thanks for a clear description of the current situation. I do wonder when weathercat for WeatherLink live will be removed from beta status.

Only a mere $395.00  and you have to have Weatherlink.com account.

Hi all:

Here is the link to a video that shows the new station off....

I have to wonder if it will ever connect to a Mac or Weather Cat.

My humble opinion: Not as long as Marketing and Finance is running things. [rolleyes2] They want "subscribers" (Customers on a leash [coffee]).

Exactly. Plus, it's so thicc, it looks like a North Korean iPad knock off.
