Anyone confirm it is running on an M1 chip? I assume it would not be an issue but would rather confirm first.

I am having issues with slowing down, the Time Machine is forever re indexing  and my backblaze backup is rejecting files for who knows,  I had to run something to copy things and send to them.   I am waiting iDrive to work and if it works, not worrying.   Those are set for late tonight when I am asleep or watching cowboy movies older than me.    Safari goes through stages of being slower than syrup at the North pole .   So who knows.  Not my router, it is 50 down and 5 up.  I am connected via ethernet to the modem , wife has wifi and slower.  so we see

There is a new SiLabs CP210xVCPDriver that includes updates for Monterey. https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers

I've updated my 2016 MacBook Pro to Monterey (the last update it will take), but not my 2017 iMac, which is where WeatherCat lives. I did update the driver this morning, and all is well.

I have been running WeatherCat on a 2014 Mac mini running High Sierra. I did update the SiLabs driver and all was well. I decided to try upgrading to Monterey 12.0.1 & WeatherCat would not download the historical data from my Davis Vantage Vue. So I am working on going back to High Sierra (I have a clone) & will then upgrade to Big Sur & stay there for now.

Running on Big Sur here and the Cat is just plugging away. It's a little too early for me to try Monterey.

I upgraded to Monterey 2 days ago, and everything seems to be working and stable. My mac is using the Quad-Core intel Core i3. My question is will W-Cat be ready for the upgrade, what cool new features will it include, and when can we expect it. I hate to not do the upgrades for privacy and internet security concerns...

Hello, I updated to Monterey and no particular problem.

Regarding the high consumption of the gauges, I solved the problem by running WC Client which consumes much less CPU than the WC gauges.

Hello,

I joined the forum to see if I could find anyone who's had luck going from pre-Big Sur to Monterey and was able to get their box to accept the new Silicon Labs CP210xVCP Driver?

I recently made the leap, from a long functioning Big Sur set up to Monterey which has failed. I cannot seem to get macOS to allow the driver to run. I have run the SiLabs installer a dozen or so times, each time manually approving in System Prefs > Security. Run their uninstaller, and even when I cannot find the driver on my system, System Report still lists two SiLabs entries in its "disabled software" list. I have booted into System Recovery and manually added the developer's code number to the accept list.

Before I wipe my Mac mini and start from scratch, does anyone have a magic incantation that's worked for them? Maybe something that worked for you to get the driver working on Catalina, which I skipped?

However, there is no confirmation as to the exact version numbers.

When I referenced “the new Silicon Labs […] driver” this is exactly the one I am referencing—v6.0.2. Sorry for the lack for specificity. The latest version on the SiLabs site is the one I am unable to convince Monterey to allow to run on my Mac mini.

Reviewing this thread I see that PeggyD had some trouble getting WeatherCat to work with the Silicon Labs driver at first on Monterey.  Here is that first post:

She was forced to roll back to an earlier version of macOS.  She later upgraded a second time and finally was able to make everything work as reported in this posting:

I cannot even imagine what the problem is but this is clear evidence that macOS Monterey is generating problems for the Silicon Labs driver for at least some people under some set of conditions.

I just migrated from a 2012 iMac to the 2021 iMac with no problem. I had installed the latest driver on my old Mac prior to the migration and everything connected the minute I plugged the usb connector into my Mac. My 19 years of historic statistics came along and WeatherCat is performing as it did on my old Mac.

I think there are more of us that just two scattered across the various Monterey threads. Mine has worked fine from the get-go.

Computer: 2017 27" iMac Retina 5K, 3.8 GHz i5, 40 GB RAM
OS: MacOS 12.1 Monterey
Hardware: Davis wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus w/24 hour FARS, wireless anemometer transmitter, Leaf & Soil Temp/Moisture Station, Weatherlink USB data logger
Software: WeatherCat version 3.1.3, (build 144), USB driver: CP210 USB to UART Bridge Controller 6.0.2

I'd changed to the new application version of the USB driver prior to upgrading to Monterey. I have no idea if that makes any difference, but I doubt it. My system likely has a ton of left over bits and bobs in the System folder, as I've never done a clean install of any system or weather related software since 2017, which was in turn restored from various iMacs back to when OS X was first released in 2001. (Wow! That's nuts! No clean install in over 20 years!! That's a robust OS!)

I guess I'm next in line!

I installed the most recent version of the SiLab driver and then upgraded (?) from Catalina to Monterey 12.2.1 on a 2019 iMac.  WC is the current version and .....  WC no longer downloads data from my Vantage Vue.  The Davis logger in the console is probably 10 years old but has worked flawlessly until applying Monterey ....  I recall something about needing a green dot on the logger and it has it.

I'm wondering if anyone has info that will help me get connected again.

I'm no expert on this one, but one thing to try is to run the Silicon Labs uninstaller to make sure there aren't any old versions of the driver that could be interfering with WeatherCat.  Once you are sure all old drivers are gone, try installing the latest Silicon Labs driver again and see if that resolves the problem.  The other thing that might help is to get the log entries that WeatherCat is reporting when attempting to get data from your Vantage Vue.  There might be a clue in those messages.

Do keep us posted as to what you discover . . . . .

I reinstalled the current driver again after uninstalling it .... that didn't solve the problem and I see that the driver application has been installed.

I appreciate your effort Edouard!  I've been running WC since 2011 ...  numerous software and computer changes and it's always worked!  This is almost unbearable!!!!!

I know others have dealt with a Monterey issue and maybe someone will come up with a solution.  I have a Catalina clone but I'm hesitant to go back because I'm planning to upgrade my Mac and it will come with Monterey. 

Thanks again ...  I know you are a wonderful resource to the WC community.

The following WC forum members have reported using WC 3.1.3 and Monterey successfully:

Edouard gave you some specific steps in Post #23. I cannot see from your Post #24 if you followed all of them or not. As I’m sure you are aware from your other posts, many times all steps must be followed and in the correct order. One thing I think Apple has made more difficult in Monterey is removing the System Information function from the Apple menu. If that function is still there, it is the easiest way to see if old extensions are still installed.

Hoping some more folks come through with any details of their upgrade to WC and Monterey. [cheers1] :)

Edit 3-15: added two more using WC 3.1.3, Python3 and Monterey.

Problem solved!!!!!

Someone suggested that I check the port to see if it changed during the transition to Monterey ... and it had!  I set the comms port to the Silicon Labs driver and all is well!

Glad to hear your problem is solved.  Yes, WeatherCat will default to another station connection method if the one you had previously selected is unavailable.  Sometimes the solution is indeed hidden in plain sight.

well, ok if you insist!!!!  I do peak in here fairly often just to see if there's anything new and always appreciate the camaraderie when I need assistance.  luckily though, just like my Macs, WC 'it just works". 

and I'm really glad my recent problem was something so simple.  I'll be going to a M1 Mac soon and I'm trying to get everything ready for the transition.
