Title: Oddly shaped guages
Post by: gilbertdh on August 09, 2021, 08:47:37 PM
Not sure why my gauges are all shaped a little differently. They are all dragged to be 200 in diameter.

Not sure what you mean by "dragged to be 200 in diameter". While you can drag the minimized gauge editor window, I think the actual dimension is set in the "Web Size" text box of the Custom Gauge editor. I think dragging the minimized editor window is mainly for displaying the gauges on your desktop? Is the screenshot from a web page or the Desktop?

Can you give us a screenshot of the Custom Gauge Editor window for any gauges showing that 'deformity'?
Have you tried any of the different "Base" choices?

The strangest thing, to me, is that it seems only the 'base' or rim and the pointers are affected by the anomaly. The scale semi-circles appear to be correctly drawn. ThU32:-) Perhaps WC uses two different functions to draw those different parts? [banghead]

What are the pixel dimensions of these images showing in a "Get Info" on them in Finder (~/Library/Application Support/WeaterCatCustomWeb/customgauge[number for Month/Year Rain].png. My "square" gauges actually show 175 x 173 pixels when "175" is set in the editor "Web Size" box. [rolleyes2]

Do you actually have height and width set in the html or have a class declared in CSS? If using CSS, is either dimension set as "auto"?
Title: Which Mac and version of macOS? (Re: Oddly shaped guages)

Dear gilbertdh, X-Air, and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

X-Air has already giving you some good troubleshooting tips.  Could you please let us know what Mac model you are using and which version of macOS you are running?  That might provide further clues.

Cheers, Edouard

Thanks for your help.

These gauges are all on the desk top and appear as pictured. They are not on a web page, so no html or saved image.

I have a 2021 24" iMac with the M1 processor running Big Sur, OS 11.4 and Weathercat 3.12 Build 34.

"drag to 200" - when you double click the gauge, the small window appears around it and when you drag the corner of the window Diameter=X appears inside the gauge. Mine were all dragged to make Diameter=200.

Attached image shows the gauge in the configuration window.

So this is weird: Under Tools / Gauges I have no options for the basic Gauges, which I'm pretty sure I did when I installed WC. Image also attached.

Thanks again.

;D While I don't have the newer Mac, my Tools menu is exactly like yours. I think the dev didn't build a "Basic Gauges" menu item because he may have created the "Weather Station Gauges" window function first, thus he just created a "Gauges". [computer]

I had forgot about the 'display gauges on the Desktop' feature. Not sure I even knew it existed! cmu:-)

I suspect that suspect that WC automatically saves any gauge or graph you create and name to the default path. Please check the ~/Library/Application Support/WeaterCatCustomWeb/ path to see if you may actually have the custom gauges the three gauges you created (Daily Temp, Daily Rain and RainMonth/Year). They will be .png images and you can use Get Info (command + I) on a selected one to see the pixel dimensions, among other details. "~/Library" is your home Library, not the System Library nor the OS Library. If you don't have your home Library in the Finder Sidebar, use the Finder "Go" menu item which has "Library" in it. You can then create a Finder window of that "Library" and drag it into the Finder Sidebar for easy access in the future. ThU32:-)
Title: Restore preference file from backup? (Re: Oddly shaped guages)
Post by: elagache on August 10, 2021, 11:02:51 PM
Dear gilbertdh, X-Air, and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Did your gauges look normal at some point in the past and took that strange shape only recently?  If so, perhaps you should try to restore the preference file associated with custom gauges from a backup before the problem started.  The file is located here:

~/Library/WeatherCatData/WeatherCatCustomGauges.plist

The path is in UNIX notation and ~ refers to your home folder.  Obviously, WeatherCat should not be running when you replace the preference file, but I don't think any other precautions are necessary.

Let us know what you uncover.

Cheers, Edouard

gilbertdh:

There is a wiki article explaining in detail why you want to have a clean backup of your plist file, how to make one, and how to replace your plist file with the backup (it's not as simple as it appears). You'll be glad you have one because sooner or later, it will an easy fix to an annoying instance of data corruption.

Note: This only works when you know you have a clean plist file to duplicate. If you don't have a clean backup now, you will need to delete that file, empty your trash, restart your Mac, and re-enter all your preferences. Hopefully, you have a Time Machine or other backup from which you can restore a clean version.
