Title: WeatherCat on Big Sur on M1 Data Migration
Post by: Stevev1000 on January 29, 2021, 08:03:40 PM
I just updated from a 2010 IMac on High Sierra to a new M1 Mini On Big Sur. The Apple Migration did not work for me , so I started new and restored some files from a Time Machine Backup.

My question is because I already installed WC  on the new Mini and have about 2 weeks worth of data. How can I copy in my old data from my IMAC. Can I just stop WC and copy the directories described in other topics and restart WC. Won’t that overwrite  the current open data file , or can that file be edited and can I paste in my readings from the beginning of January?

I also have a USB attached Vantage Vue , and I am using the updated silicon labs driver.

Our Wiki has an article that explains how to migrate your WC installation from your iMac to your Mini.

Steve1000: Thank you for asking this question in the forums. I had a similar problem with an Intel MacBook Pro after an upgrade to Big Sur. After much effort, I downgraded back to Mojave, where my Davis Vantage Pro 2 Plus is working just fine again. But I didn't want to lose 7 years of data!

Blicj11: Thank you very much for the reference to the wiki item. Worked great for me!

Dear Scrib and WeatherCat faithful,

Obviously, you have been on the forum for a while, but since this is your first posting, let me officially welcome you to the WeatherCat forum!  (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/welcome_smiley.gif)

I'm glad that you were able to get your system up and running after much hardship.  It is an important cautionary tale.  Your Mac running WeatherCat isn't simply a computer, it is the archive of all your weather data.  Most of us really care about our data, so I strongly urge anyone considering an upgrade to check first on the forum to see if it is safe.  Delaying an update is a small price to pay for keeping all your data secure.

That's what makes the WeatherCat forum great!  We all help one another!   :)

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]
