Ambient Weather has been acquired by Nielsen-Kellerman, manufacturer of the Kestrel Meters.

They have also introduced what they are calling the "most sophisticated professional weather station we have ever offered" with no moving parts.

Perhaps Nielsen-Kellerman is the developer of the hardware mentioned last year this post: Weather Flow Smart Home Weather systems (https://weatherflow.com/smart-home-weather-stations/). OTOH, what looks like the rain 'collector' seems to be quite different. Who knows...

Dear Blick, X-Air and WeatherCat faithful,

Ambient Weather has been acquired by Nielsen-Kellerman, manufacturer of the Kestrel Meters.
. . . . .

Since this is happening a few months after Davis was acquired, this suggests that there economic pressure that are encouraging consolidation in this industry.

They have also introduced what they are calling the "most sophisticated professional weather station we have ever offered" with no moving parts.

I don't know about that, but it is clear that new weather stations based on new instrument technology are finally getting out into the consumer pipeline.  This very well could be driving the consolidation (at least in part.)  The costs of tooling and manufacturing could be such that in this tepid economy existing vendors couldn't afford to bring products like this to market.

We shall see! . . . . . . .

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Ambient has just announced a new integrated weather station that looks to be an interesting improvement over their previous models by adding an ultrasonic wind sensor.
