Hi WeatherCatters
What is the best app to use to back my computer to besides TimeMachine
TimeMachine doesn't delete the backups after it is done backing it up and I don't want I TB of backups on my external drive.
Just need and app that will back it up and change what files that have changed since the last backup
thanks for your help
cheers

Cannot help with another software, but you can use disk utility to make example 2 partitions to your harddisk and use another partition for TimeMachine and another partition for store somethink else.

I've used SuperDuper (www.shirt-pocket.com) for years. Once a month I do an incremental backup onto a USB pocket drive. I have three pocket drives and rotate them monthly to insure that I have a backup in case of them fails (they never have.) SuperDuper does a great job and also makes the drive bootable so that I can boot my Mac using the backup drive if my main drive fails. I highly recommend SuperDuper.

Previously used SD but changed to CarbonCopyCloner (https://bombich.com) over a year ago. Absolutely no problems, ever. Bootable backups automatically updated whenever any files change. Super easy to use and schedule. Extremely well supported by very helpful and knowledgeable dev. Worth every penny! ThU5:-)

I do use Time Machine, but I also use BackBlaze and the icloud that comes with the machine. The latter two are cloud based, off site. Further you can go to the app store and see which would do the best for you , OR you can google " back up software for the mac." https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Backup+software+for+the+mac (https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Backup+software+for+the+mac)
Gee a 72 year old man telling a "kid" how to find something he/she needs for the computer. lol(1)

The key is: Do/Use something before it's too late. [lol] ThU32:-)

Everyone needs to back up their system and files. I use the Tiimemachine, but still use two cloud -off site. Computers, disks all of those crash and burn. You need to do two things with any computer.
1. Anti-virus (I use Norton 360, but there are a lot of good.. Bitdefender, Kapersky, etc)
2. Back up your files.
3. (a distant , notice the space) a battery back up such as an UPS - I use Cyberpower but you need it for the time the power goes down and you want your system to save your work.

I use both Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner. Love 'em both.

Me too. But instead of CCC I trust in SuperDuper! and I am happy with it. I geeked to CCC as well, but the Dev's of SD are doing a good job, so no reason for me to change. :)

Another user of CarbonCopyCloner here. I was also using Time Machine, but I stopped using it after it failed repeatedly during system restore tests, CCC restored successfully every time. I highly recommend doing system restore tests to make sure all is working properly.
I also use a battery backup in case of power failure. On 10/26 we took a direct hit from tropical storm Olga, wind gusts hit as high as 73 mph, power was out for 10 days. The battery backup kept the station going until I got a generator running.
