Title: So how do you like your "arctic blast?"
Post by: elagache on November 12, 2019, 10:38:39 PM
Dear WeatherCat users who prefer to observe extreme weather from a comfortable distance,

For many of you, the arctic has come home to visit.  Here is a USA Today article about it:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/11/12/arctic-blast-cold-snow-millions-chicago-florida/2572197001/ (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/11/12/arctic-blast-cold-snow-millions-chicago-florida/2572197001/)

This is a bit interesting from the forecasting standpoint.  The Climate Prediction Center forecasts suggested some parts of the country would be cooler than normal, but it didn't seem like extreme cold.  You can review the graphs on this forum posting:

http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=3028.msg29451#msg29451 (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=3028.msg29451#msg29451)

In addition, this is supposed to be an anomaly in a winter that is supposed to be for the most part warmer than normal.  Here is the kink once more to the National Weather Service winter outlook:

https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/winter-outlook-warmer-than-average-for-many-wetter-in-north (https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/winter-outlook-warmer-than-average-for-many-wetter-in-north)

Given the deep freeze, what are WeatherCatters experiencing?  Can any of you point your cameras or smart-phones out the window to give us a glimpse of the arctic conditions in your neck of the woods?

A curious mind would like to know . . . . . . .

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

P.S.  [wink] . . . . So X-Air, have you fired your weather forecaster yet for letting it snow so far south? . . . .  lol(1)

It was -1 F when I woke up at 7 am.   Got up to 19F.  4 inches of snow on the ground.  Tomorrow a bit warmer, but mix of rain, freezing rain and snow on cold concrete. How do I like it?

It will happen again and again, this winter, this was a bit early .  The farmers still have crops in the field needing to be harvested and now they are frozen.   And  all the press goes to the pansy folks East of the Mississippi.

How should I like it?   I don't.  Keep burning those fossil industrial fuels,

It was 13 degrees F here in northern Ohio this morning, so not too bad. It was only 4 degrees warmer in costal Alabama...   [freeze]

Dear Weatheraardvark, Randall, Steve, and WeatherCatters effected by the arctic blast,

Thanks for sharing your experiences, but don't forget your camera or smart-phone!

And I'm still waiting to find out what happened to X-Air's meteorologist! . . . .  [biggrin]

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

He has kept his job, for the time being. No sign of snow at first light Tuesday. There were traces on some roofs at night, but the wind managed to blow away that evidence before most humans saw it! Snow has a hard time getting across the northern border of Tennessee and we live just a a few miles from its southern. ThU32:-)

Glad to hear that your meteorologist is still employed.  However, it is still over a month before winter even officially starts!  In the meantime, here in California we are smelling smoke.  There is just one small issue: there aren't any reported fires anywhere near us.  Keeping our eyes peeled!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]
