Title: Vantage Pro2 Plus ISS Battery
Post by: Blicj11 on October 12, 2019, 06:21:16 PM
This morning I checked out my ISS battery status. I last replaced that 3 volt battery 3 1/2 years ago. First, I checked WeatherCat Tools | Station Hardware options, where WC told me that the ISS battery status was Good and I had all green bars. Then I went outside to the ISS and put a volt meter on the battery under load. The meter showed 3.1 volts, which is what it showed when I first installed it new. I know many WeatherCatters change that battery every year, but I am too cheap to toss a perfectly functioning battery. I got almost 7 years out of the first battery I ever used in this ISS. Besides, I like the challenge of replacing it during a snowstorm in the heart of winter.

Dear Blick and WeatherCat station caregivers, . . . .

. . . . . I like the challenge of replacing it during a snowstorm in the heart of winter.

 [wink] . . . . . . Remember!!  You're askin' for it! . . . . .  lol(1)

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Replace the battery.
I buy my battery at $1.50 us from Battery Junction https://www.batteryjunction.com/batteries-size-cr123a.html (https://www.batteryjunction.com/batteries-size-cr123a.html)

Replace it now and stop being a tight wad...   I won't cry for you when it quits and you find it has leaked down on your circuit board, at night, when the most wonderful weather event is out and your station isn't working because you wanted the battery to last to the next era.

Did you check the voltage while it was still in the ISS?

The life of the battery is 1-2 years. Yours is 3.5 years.  Yeah, time to change the battery.   Just do it.  If  you need some relaxing reading, here is a URL that will tell you more about that battery than you can imagine.  Don't waste  time measuring the battery voltage in or out of the unit, just replace it. You got your money's worth on that one.
