Title: 100 days and Counting
Post by: pbeaudet on April 09, 2017, 01:01:51 AM
I now have 100 days of WC running. The few sensor errors were from my main station when the battery died. Weathercam is uploaded with EvoCam 4 because EvoCam 5 sucked. WC uploads the WU image. [cheers1] ThU5:-)

Much more than the OS! How do you handle security updates? I thought at first you might have stayed with Snow Leopard, but your info says you're on El Capitan.

Yes, I'm still on El Capitan because the mac mini cannot be upgraded to Sierra. I haven't checked for security updates but I will next time it goes down, if it goes down. I'm trying for 200 days.....

Thanks Stu for a stable app! [rock] [cheers1]

Dear Phillip, Blick, X-Air, and WeatherCat cyber-endurance runners,

I now have 100 days of WC running.

Glad to hear it!  [tup]  Indeed a dedicated machine will do very well because not only WeatherCat is stable but it uses memory efficiently.  That isn't always true of some of the other applications we have come to depend upon . . . .  [banghead]

Cheers, Edouard

Well, I jinxed it. El Capitan froze up completely on day 102....after a stray cosmic ray hit it. lol(1)

Well dang it!

Title: WeatherCat running fine on Sierra (Re: 100 days and Counting)

Dear dogear and WeatherCat sys-admins,

So is weather cat stable on Sierra now? Thanks

WeatherCat is running fine on Sierra.  The only potential issue is any driver software that might be needed to connect to your station.  Davis owners should download the latest driver from Silicon Labs.  You can find out how to do that on the WeatherCat Wiki:

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Obtaining_the_latest_drivers_for_use_with_Davis_data_loggers (http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Obtaining_the_latest_drivers_for_use_with_Davis_data_loggers)

If you are using an older station with a serial to USB dongle, this could be a tricky situation.  If so, post a note on the forum and we'll do our best to help you out.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

It's worked fine on the setup detailed in my profile since the day the GM was released. Edouard already wrote about some configurations which have to wait on third parties to get on board.

Yes, da Cat is running fine with Sierra. I almost made 100 days again but the battery died on remote station. I ended up rebooting before I realized I needed to replace the battery. That also allowed me to update Sierra to the latest 10.12.6. Normally, the batteries are changed in November but the the excessive cloud cover this winter was too much for the poor battery.

The Mac Mini is a dedicated system running only WC and EvoCam v 5.0.

I was sure I had switched to EvoCam v4 because of a memory leak in v5. It appears to have no problem in Sierra. Go figure......
