Is anyone of this weather community working with such a device or planning to play with it? And can WCat handle this additional data? And is there some device available for Mac? Questions over questions...
And the cardinal question: Does it make sense to measure the snow depth?
:o

Does it make sense to measure the snow depth?
It depends on how long the legs on your cat are. (http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/u666/xAirbusDriver/Thinking_zps6auyy8fj.gif) (http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/u666/xAirbusDriver/tease_zpsrq5td6hw.gif)

Reinhard:
I have looked at several devices available but haven't found one that outputs data to a Mac.

Thanks folks,
I found this one (http://www.lufft.com/en/products/optical-sensors/snow-depth-sensor-shm-30-836510/), attached a datasheet. So now we need someone that is able to read out data from such a device. Anyone here who does have good connections to Davis? They should be able to connect such a device to their VP2 pro... ;)
Cheers,

Dear Reinhard and WeatherCat weather instrument junkies,
I found this one (http://www.lufft.com/en/products/optical-sensors/snow-depth-sensor-shm-30-836510/), attached a datasheet. So now we need someone that is able to read out data from such a device.
To be more precise, you found the: Lifft snow depth sensor SHM 30. If you do a search of the web you don't find anybody actually selling such a device. The only references appear to be government or industry uses.
I can't be sure, but I have suspicion that if you have to ask what the price is - you can't afford it! lol(1)

So,
nobody in this forum with the power and the might to force Davis to build such a device as additional sensor? ;D
Why it's always up to me to show them the way... [banghead]
:) :) :)

Their location makes it hard for them to even see snow, much less 'see' a need to measure it. However, some 30 + years ago, I remember the ramp agent telling of snow on the ridge that runs along the west coast, across the Bay from where Davis is... Where I live, if snow is around long enough to measure it, we fire the weatherman!! >:(

Go get 'em tiger!

Dear Reinhard, X-Air, Blick, and WeatherCat "insiders," . . .
nobody in this forum with the power and the might to force Davis to build such a device as additional sensor? ;D
I sure don't! ??? The closest I've got within Davis was the name of their newsletter editor and I haven't submitted anything in years. I thought about submitting my PC case fan - "mod", . . . . but somehow I didn't think they would appreciate it! lol(1)
