Title: EvoCam
Post by: awilltx on August 11, 2016, 06:44:02 PM
I know there are other folks here who use EvoCam software for the webcams. I have noticed that their website at http://www.evological.com (http://www.evological.com) is not working. Hope this is just a failure to renew their domain name or if something else is going on that I have not heard of.

Fingers crossed,

Alan

I emailed him with the link on that error page. It must be his whole site as I'd expect he'd have his own 404page.  Mid-South Weather Er0r page (http://mid-southweather.com/error.html)

Sadly, it looks like EvoCam is no more:

I tried that when I went rogue and to the mac.   couldn't get it to play nice with my foscams, so I went with Security Spy and it works fine.

Maybe Evocam is having a server upgrade?

I know that Hostmonster is upgrading their servers and security tonight for the one my site is on. Got a notice. perhaps Evocam is doing the same after all the security breaches.

Doubtful that a server upgrade would take two months!

Agreed. They have definitely gone dark, which is a shame.

Well, crap! I was just thinking the other day that I ought to finally update mine to the latest version. I'm still running 3.7.6 (although I paid for version 4, I never switched to it) but it is showing its age. I need to run an AppleScript to check that it is running, and if not, relaunch it, as it quits twice a day, no matter what settings I have.

This is the only Mac-compatable video capture software I have found so far as a potential alternative for Evocam. I haven't tried it, just read about it.

Well that really sucks. I'm using v5.0 and it's running fine with Sierra 10.12.1. Guess I'd better bookmark this thread, I'll probably need an alternative at some point if the developer has closed up shop.

Thanks for the link, Alan.

I have a legal license for EvoCam 4, but not a copy of the software. I can't find anyplace to download it, either. If someone has the last version of EvoCam4 before it changed to version 5, could you please email a copy at admin@avon-weather.com

Thanks,
Steve

It was several months ago that a fairly widely used e-commerce site went bankrupt leaving many developers in a financial and practical bind. He may have decided it was an appropriate time to fold up shop. I'll check the version I have. I never could figure out how to get it to upload any vids and I very much like the way WC over lays the data. If it ain't broke...  ThU5:-)

Thanks so much, Randall.

I too like 3.7.6 better than the early version of 4.0 that I tested. It lost several features I relied on. That's about when I quits on me, too.

Xair, I use EvoCom because it can be used with several cameras, which WeatherCat's tools can't do.

There seem to be many different versions that you guys are running. I am on 4.3 but don't have a download to share. I really like this app so maybe it can/will be revived in the future.
