Title: Not connecting to Wunderstation
Post by: lenticular on July 16, 2016, 11:05:11 AM
Hi
I?m new to the group and Weathercat. I?ve always loved meteorology and I?m looking forward to getting involved, However?..

I?ve just bought my first proper weather station (Well for me!) and no matter what I try I just can?t get it to connect with Wunderground!
I have a Aercus Instruments WS3083. I think is a re-branded model

I?ve changed my personal password with Wunderground, re-registered the PWS, emailed Wunderground, WeatherCat, and Aercus, all who have been helpful but unfortunately to no avail
The thing is, it?s working with Weather Bug, Weathercloud and PWS Weather

I?ve checked and re checked the station name and password and also added it as another station with different name and password
All it keeps coming up with is ?Server busy/unavailable?
The Station ID is ?IWELTON4?
Also the "Go to your PWS web page" is not working but the "Create Wunderground Account" is

What am I doing wrong??
Can anyone help please?

First of all, welcome to the WeatherCat Forum. Sorry to her about your frustration with WU. I am sure you have already done this, but WeatherUnderground cannot handle complex passwords. Make sure your new password does NOT contain any special characters. Your WU password can only be comprised of alphanumeric characters. Keep your WU password simple or else it will not work.

Dear lenticular, Blick, and WeatherCat fans,

I?m new to the group and Weathercat. I?ve always loved meteorology and I?m looking forward to getting involved,

Let me be the second person to welcome you to the WeatherCat forum! (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/welcome_smiley.gif)

However?.. I?ve just bought my first proper weather station (Well for me!) and no matter what I try I just can?t get it to connect with Wunderground!

Blick's advice usually solves the problem.  Let us know if indeed you are now able to upload data to Weather Underground.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Thanks Guys. Always nice to be welcome  :)

Yes I changed the Password a number of time to a very simple one and no joy
Also the web link is not working?
It is working with the others.
I've just bought a registration code from WeatherCat in the hope it will help?!?!

Welcome to the forum!

Your comment about the 'Go To Your PWS Page' button not working is interesting - what happens when you hit the button? Your browser should open and take you to your PWS page - what are you seeing?

Hi, Thanks for the Welcome
The button just turns blue and nothing happens
If I press the "Create Wunderground Account" It takes me to the page

Thank you.

I suspect you have a space at the end of your Station I.D. as entered into WeatherCat (I can reproduce the behaviour you are seeing with a trailing space in the station ID).

Can you select all the text in the Station ID field, delete it, then enter the station ID again making sure to add no leading or trailing space(s) then try the 'Go To Your PWS Page' again.

That was great thanks.... but it didn't work  :(
There was a space at the front and at the end
I've removed them, Restarted the whole thing and still no Joy :'(

Unfortunately that means you still have a space or some other illegal character in there.

Try clicking in the Station ID field, then pressing CMD-A to select all the text. Next press the backspace key to delete it all, then enter your station ID (don't for example, copy and paste it). Now click on the 'Go To Your PWS Page' - if the station ID is correct, your browser will open and take you to your Wunderground station page.

Oh Wow. How thick am I?!?!?!?
Thank you so much WCDev
So I did that and it seems that the station ID was in twice! but not visible!
Anyway the link now works but the current status now says "error"
I've re entered the password and restarted
but not sure if this is just a delay from wunderstation

If the station ID is now correct - i.e. 'Go To Your PWS Page' is now taking your to the correct page, the most likely issue is your password is incorrect.

As per the Station ID - delete all the text in the password field then re-enter the password (hit the tab key or return key to exit the field and save the password).

Dear lenticular, Stu, and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Anyway the link now works but the current status now says "error"
I've re entered the password and restarted
but not sure if this is just a delay from wunderstation

If the station ID is now correct - i.e. 'Go To Your PWS Page' is now taking your to the correct page, the most likely issue is your password is incorrect.

In a situation like this you might want to cut your current password and paste it as clear text in some safe place like a TextEdit window.  You may be suffering from the same problem on your password as occurred on your station ID.  The only way to be sure you are putting in the correct password is to reveal exactly that text is being pasted into WeatherCat.  As before, be very careful to avoid accidentally appending spaces or other non-alphanumeric characters.

Hopefully you one step away from solving this problem!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

OMG!!! I really don't think I could be so daft!! ::) ::)

So.. I uninstalled WeatherCat, I disconnected the base station, I brought the Sensors inside and took the battery out of the transmitter. I then put it all together again. Downloaded WC and started again :-[ :-[

As we have some time difference I didn't read you're posts until just now.
I know I put everything in this time correctly but it was still not playing ball.
Then it occurred to me.... and you'll like this....
People were saying they had changed their passwords. Well so had I
But you can't change the station Key!
So yes you guessed it
I'd been putting the station key in instead of the password!! ::) :-[ ::)
But thanks to you guys it's finally working. Thanks so much.  [cheers1] [woohoo] [woohoo] [woohoo] [woohoo]
I'm really grateful for your help.
And really happy I've got it all working now... Really I just don't know what to say
Thank you all very much and sorry I've been a bit thick!

I'd just like to thank everyone once more for their help
I can't guarantee how active I'll be on the site due to work committments but I do want to introduce my self properly on the "New Members Intro"
I'm also looking forward to adding a web cam or two and also making my own web page. There are a couple of other PWS near me so I may get in touch with them to see what we can do.
Thanks to all

Dear lenticular and WeatherCat community,

I'd just like to thank everyone once more for their help

Glad the problem was straightforward to solve.  We all are happy to help out another WeatherCat fan!  [bounce]

I certainly hope that you can give us at least a brief introduction.  It helps us feel more connected.  There are quite a few weather website templates already created for you.  You'll find them in this Forum topic:

http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?board=5.0 (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?board=5.0)

Also, keep in mind that WeatherCat has a simple website already built-in that you can deploy by simply turning it on.  It is a perfectly good place to start and it also can be handy to make sure that you have set up your web hosting service correctly.

If you want to set up a webcam there are quite a number of cameras out there to choose from.  There is even a way to adapt point and shoot cameras into webcams.  The best way to learn more about these options is to ask a question in this topic area:

Do keep in touch!  We are a friendly bunch of weather enthusiasts!  [cheer]
