Title: Connecting to Wunderground
Post by: Jeffrey Hickey on April 17, 2016, 10:34:51 PM
Hi Folks:

I'm new here. Just changed from Lightsoft to WeatherCat. I was able to upload to Wunderground with Lightsoft, but not so far with WeatherCat. I'm using a Vantage Vue, the weather link usb data logger, and all the past information has transferred. It will not connect to Weather Underground.

Also, we just upgraded to Mac OSX 10.9.5.

What am I missing or doing wrong? I've sent email to Wunderground, but have not heard back.

Thanks,

Jeffrey Hickey

Dear Jeffrey and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Welcome home (in effect) after waiting a long time to upgrade to WeatherCat! (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/welcome_smiley.gif)

Weather Underground has been going through some upgrades since they were bought by the Weather Channel.  Something to try is going to the Weather Underground website and changing your password to something different.  I vaguely recall that the password criteria has changed and some people have been unable to connect with their old password because it no longer fits the current criteria.  After switching passwords, folks were able to upload data once more.

Give that a try and let us know if that solves your problem.

Again welcome!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Thank you. I'll let you know tomorrow, and thanks for the warm welcome.

I would imagine I'm not the only one out there who knew nothing about WeatherCat, simply because nothing ever went wrong with Lightsoft for me. My last email with Stu was about six years ago. I'm loving what I'm seeing so far, and so relieved that all my Lightsoft data not only carried over to WeatherCat, but had information revealed that I did not know it was accumulating. Truly, a wonderful treat.

Anyway, I'll check out the password tip tomorrow and write back.

Cheers to you as well. Love the name of your station, given how I'm a recent alumnus of Oaksterdam . . .

Jeff

Kudos to Edouard for remembering that tip which has helped others when trying to connect to WU during this rocky transitional period. It's one of the few times when a short, simple password without any symbols is best (at least until you get everything working).

And yes, a warm welcome to Jeffrey from the East Coast as well.

Welcome to WeatherCat Jeff. I had the same problem with WU. As Felix said, the key for me was to change my password to remove special characters.

Folks:

I changed the password, was able to log in, but information still does not upload. I also have not heard back from Wunderground. I will try creating a simpler password later, but the password I was using was very simple. I'll get this figured out. At least I'm accumulating my own data again.

Problem solved! It was something ridiculously simple: incorrect station id in my settings.

I'm up and active now:  https://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/hdfForecast?query=38.097%2C-122.854&sp=KCAINVER2&MR=1

I'll be back here to chat again soon, but thank you to everyone. Looking forward to diving into this new program. Looks like a lot of fun.

Jeff
