Title: How to clear WC stored data/history

Subject says it all, I'd like to start from a clean database (empty).

The data is stored in files that are kept by year in the folder:

~/Library/WeatherCatData/Location1

Where the ~ is the UNIX convention for your home folder.  There is a folder for each year of data.  If you quit WeatherCat, and drag all the folders of yearly data to the trash, WeatherCat will then start up with all the same settings but without any data.

If you want to have a completely clean installation of WeatherCat which also removes the old settings, there are instructions for removing WeatherCat completely in Appendix 6 of the WeatherCat manual which is on page 216 of the current manual.

The following is absolutely not directed at any WC member or visitor, living or dead, regardless of the location of this post being close to any other post/thread/topic. The opinions and statements below are all mine and can be deleted and/or ignored without any detriment to me or my ego.

PLEASE! Remember computers are not as smart as we are! You do NOT need to put anything in the "Trash" just to keep the computer from seeing it. Never, ever put anything in the "Trash" unless you absolutely know you will never need it again. If you simply want the OS/app/script/whatever to create (or "forget") a new (or old) item/file/folder/etc., all you have to do is (1)Quit the program whose data you are going to work on and (2)rename the current item or move it to practically anywhere else on your drive.

Sorry for the 'screaming', ranting, jumping up and down, but I have been on an apparently one-man crusade to stop the habit many people seem to have of moving things to the Trash before they know what the really want to do. The point is, the "Trash" is NOT a STORAGE area, never was, never should be. You probably have a few dozen GBs of real, usable, safe, clean storage space on at least one drive. Use it! [banghead]

I think the guy that started the "put it in the Trash" habit is the same guy that has "Hold by beer and watch this" on his tombstone. [biggrin]

When you next accidentally delete something because you put it in the Trash, don't ask me for sympathy. If you are lucky, you can restore a copy from a Time Machine or other backup... assuming your TM or other drive doesn't die before you realize the need. [rolleyes2] It will happen when you least expect it. If you're keen on gambling, buy a lottery ticket.  ;D

I can only agree with that statement, and this is my habit indeed (it becomes a habit when one really have lost a really important data...).
I'll go rename the location in the library folder, thank you very much.

Eric, so sad to here that you might have any bad habits. My last bad habit was trusting a computer to correct my spelling. Someone asks a question like this, all you can do is answer it.  If the goal is sincerely to clear all the history, then not putting the files in the trash is simply making more work for that person.  If that wasn't the goal - then why ask the question?

At some point we all need to be adult about things and make decisions for ourselves . . . There is already way too much babysitting on planet Earth.
