Title: OpenWeatherMap
Post by: RochesterWeather on December 12, 2015, 09:58:35 AM
Hi!

Anyone else found that the internal WC 'Additional Services' is no longer uploading to OpenWeatherMap?

Thanks in advance,

Yours,

Rich

I've been puzzling over this for a while, Rich.

WC claims to be uploading - it's currently showing 1087 reports sent and the same number acknowledged.

However my station page at http://openweathermap.org/station/202452 shows nothing received since September.

I've tried stopping and starting and working through the OpenWeatherMap site, but nothing makes it work. Since I find their site deeply frustrating and very hard to navigate, I've given up trying to resolve it.

Every other site I use works fine, so other than a desire to solve the problem, I'm not too worried.

Hi!

My Current Status is reading Error and I'm not getting any acknowledgements. Interestingly mine too 'died' in September - the 20th at 05.55. What update rate are you using?

Cheers,

Rich

Ooh - it's odd they both died within a minute of each other. I'm currently uploading at intervals of 300 seconds. I don't think I've changed it, so it may be the default in WC.

Is anyone else using OpenWeatherMap and getting the same problem? Or doing so successfully?

Apparently, mine doesn't work, either. I haven't checked it probably since Stu added the feature.

I'll take a look. I've just been looking to see if any other PWS's are uploading to them and I can't actually see any? (http://openweathermap.org/stationmap)

Dear Rich, John, Steve, Stu, and WeatherCat data submission junkies, . .

I'll take a look. I've just been looking to see if any other PWS's are uploading to them and I can't actually see any? (http://openweathermap.org/stationmap)

I just attempted to get any display of personal weather station data and I can't get anything but airports and the temperatures reported there are wacko.  Looks like this project might be in serious trouble.

Oh well, . . . . Edouard

I'm seeing two issues - I have three accounts there for testing and 1 is accepting data (the server is saying it's accepted the data) but there's nothing coming through to the station pages and the other 2 are throwing internal server errors (this'll appear in WeatherCat as 'Error' in the UI as it doesn't understand the error its getting from the server.

It looks like the internal server errors can be cured by changing your user name and making sure you're only using alpha numeric characters, but there's still the issue of them accepting data but it not appearing on the station pages.

For now, I'd suggest disabling the service in WeatherCat and I'll contact them to find out what's going on - there's nothing noted in any of their news or blog pages.

Thanks

Have stopped the service for the time being!

I see my submissions to OpenWeatherMap now appearing on their site.

I've not done anything to the settings at either end (mine or theirs), but I now have a second page at http://openweathermap.org/station/1442728613 that is showing data received. I can't see any of the charts they draw, but that was always a bit variable.

So it looks to be working at the moment, albeit not very well!

I get the same "error." I have tried emailing them about this issue. One week later, I got a reply (in German) asking me to send my weathercat log. I did this a week ago, and no reply. The web site is no help. Their FB page talks about how great they are....

I just changed my user name from two words to one. It now says it is working.

Same here. Although my username was already one word, changing it to something else seems to have lifted the error.

So, I was going to remove this for the 2.3.0 release, but if people are getting some use out of it, will leave it.

I can't say I'd miss it if you did remove it. It seems barely functional compared to most of the other options!

Won't make me mad if you remove it. I never visit the site so I didn't even know there was a problem until they e-mailed me. Like others, changing my UserName started it working again.

And it's stopped uploading again. My page says the last update was at 16:12 on Feb 1st.

Yea, I'm offline again as well. Stu, what's the correctly-functioning version these guys are referring to in an e-mail I received this morning?

At this moment there are over 60 stations uploading data to Weathercloud via WeatherCat, so we assume that there is at least one version of the software performing this task properly.

Our API cannot be the problem, as it is currently capturing data from over 7,000 stations and 15 different weather software.

Felix:

This thread is about OpenWeatherMap. Your email is from the Weathercloud app, which is a different animal altogether. Although I can tell you the version of WeatherCat you are using definitely uploads properly to Weathercloud.

Well, that certainly explained a lot. <Now where's that Emoji for total embarrassment?>

Ok, so enough is enough - I've heard nothing from them, so this is an official deprecation notice.

OpenWeatherMap will be removed in an upcoming release. I would suggest you stop the service in WeatherCat, pending its removal.
