Title: Vantage Pro Virtual Console & Weather Cat
Post by: schwab on July 09, 2015, 06:54:07 PM
Any chance WeatherCat can be modified so its tags drive a VantagePro Virtual Console like this one?

Dear schwab, Sean, and WeatherCat weather . . . . "geeks"

Any chance WeatherCat can be modified so its tags drive a VantagePro Virtual Console like this one?

Here's a discussion thread:

This has come up at least once before, but alas, I cannot find a search string to bring up the previous discussion.

As I mentioned in that discussion, sure it is cool - but only for anyone who already knows what a Davis VP-2 console looks like.  So you really do have to be a sort of "weather geek" to appreciate it.  In addition, how many of us really depend on our VP-2 console for our weather information (especially when we have such a nice program like WeatherCat as an alternative?)

I suppose if it wouldn't take a lot of work to tweek the existing tags, Stu might be interested.  On the other hand, it is written in PHP, so you might be able to adapt the code to work with WeatherCat and it's CGI interface.  I would expect this to be a serious PHP programming project though.  I don't know of anyone who is a regular user of WeatherCat who could take this one besides the authors of some of the fancy web templates for WeatherCat.

So I suppose your choice is to try to encourage one of those PHP gurus or make yourself into a PHP guru!

I don't know if there is enough coolness there to make the work involved worthwhile.

My two-cents, . . . . Edouard

I seen several of these online, all of which use Weather Display as their underlying software program. The first time I saw it I thought it was really cool, but the more I thought about it, I came to the same conclusion as Edouard. It's cool for Davis geeks but I like WeatherCat's versatility much better. I also like the eye-popping nature of SteelSeries Gauges or WeatherCat's custom gauges better than the Davis Console.

Any new solutions such that WeatherCat users can post a Virtual VP2 Console (see link) to their websites created using Saratoga-Weather Templates?

http://silveracorn.nz/weather/davconvp2CW.php

Thanks

Mark, I think we need a cool new experimental page and the corresponding code.

Default the console is also included in the Leuven-Template, this site defaults to Dutch but I set the language to English
Example console: http://weerstation-herent.be/weather2/index.php?p=console&ipad&lang=en
In a lot of cases the Leuven-Template is installed next to another template or option dynamically displays the page without menu/headers/footers and so on.
Example of one of the forecasts: http://sluispark.be/weather28/index.php?p=wsForecast&lang=en&ipad

Be it a console or a (metno, yrno, NWS, WU a.s.o.)  forecast, the output can be resized to be used on your own site.
The forecasts do not need any data to be uploaded.  The console, gauges a.s.o. needs frequent data uploads.

That console has also been adapted to Cumulus (http://sandaysoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10597).

But, yeah, it's a bit geeky - and being a geek, the wind direction indicator isn't right. The arrow points the wrong way and recent average directions aren't shown ;)

Maybe to clarify...

Is there a solution available such that I may add a virtual Vantage Pro Console to my website?

www.schwab1.com

My site uses WeatherCat to upload data and Saratoga-Weather templates to publish the data on the web

Thanks.
