Im stumped, i cannot get weather cat to give me access to the weatherlink IP settings.
I have mac OSX (no software supplied it seems for the mac) and the Davis 6555 weatherlink IP data logger (internally plugged into an Envoy)
I'm trying to use ANY software whatsoever to make a simple change, i want the data recorded being on-sent to either wunderground or cwos to be sent in 1 min or 5 min intervals. the default setting to those services is currently 15mins.
how to achieve?
i cannot get weather cat to recognise the Davis datalogger
regards

Good morning Boracay!
The WeatherCat software modifies the settings to WU by going to the WeatherCat menu, Preferences, and then in the pane, Online, Wunderground PWS. Next to WU in the subhead is CWOP.
Best wishes and happy holidays!
-
Welcome to the forum Borocay. Herb told you how to access the settings for how often you send data to WU and CWOP. You do not need to access your IP data logger for that purpose. However, if you are actually trying to access how often your data logger records data, you do that in WeatherCat Tools | Station Hardware Options. But changing your IP Data Logger interval has no impact on how often you send data to third party apps. It just changes how often your data logger records data in the event that your weather station is unable to connect to your computer or the Internet.

There are two parties involved in uploading to WU. Be carefull not to use both as this will certainly be blocked by WU.
1. The IP logger (WLIP)
The logger uploads by default to WeatherLink.com (WL.com). It starts as soon as the device is plugged-in. Your device-id on the sticker is used to make an account at WL.com. At WL.com you can specify the other uploads to WU and CWOP.
2. Your weather-program.
If you want to use WeatherCat to do the upload to WU and others you should switch / remove the settings in WL.Com

cannot get weather cat to recognise the Davis datalogger
Well the only part WeatherCat has to recognise is the standard logger part. And it does that nicely.
The extra's for the IP part can be done by yourself by using your browser and going to IP-ADRESS_of_the_WLIP.
If the WLIP is not busy (as being used by WeatherCat) you get a nice yellow box were you can switch off the upload to WL.com (do not do that), change the port WeatherCat should use (do not change) and set the IP-adress to a fixed one (do not do that). That is all.
There is no way you can change the upload frequency to WU or CWOP on your local Mac, other than using your browser and going to WL.com.

Note that WeatherCat users are advised not to upload to weather link.com.
For the greatest reliability it is suggested you turn off the upload to weatherlink.com via the loggers' configuration web page and turn the upload option off in WeatherCat. The reason for this is when uploading to weatherlink.com, the logger may lock-up if it can't resolve the weatherlink.com domain name and communications to WeatherCat will be lost.

thats all good , thanks, but....
i cannot get weather cat to recognise the Davis datalogger
in the startup sequence. it fails to communicate
is there a :port access i need to open to the router?
the data logger/envoy is simply plugged into the router. its sending data to cwos and wunderground and WC.com (i set that up at WC.com)
thats all good, but its by default 15mins (which for us is not frequent enough, we are only interested in the wind from minute to minute)
i have mac OSX 10.10
wearthercat trial expires tonight.
love weather cat, but cannot get it to communicate. hardware connection fails at startup.
cheers

Have you positively correctly identified the Davis logger's IP?
I use the free LAN Scan (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/40742/lanscan) which was pointed out in the link below. It's drop dead easy to use and clearly IDs the Davis logger's IP so you can input it into WeatherCat.
This thread is extremely helpful:

??
I hope WeatherCat and the ip-logger are on the same LAN?
Otherwise it will not work.
The default port is 22222
Check the settings in the ip-logger (Yellow screen) if you did not by mistake changed the ip (DHCP) or port-number
I tested it again here with my IP-logger and did not got any errors.
Go to tools => Configure Station comms... => press "Configure Comms & exit" on the pop-up.
WeatherCat restarts and the "Station communications" pop-up is shown.
first line: Davis Weatherlink IP selected from drop down
comms port: greyed out (= only used for usb bluetooth)
ip address: 192.168.0.251:22222
Succes, Wim

got it guys.
thank you.
it was a conflicting ip on the LAN
have now forced it to be an exclusive number on the plan.
great stuff.
now, onto my last day on weather cat trial, i can try to play with it before i fall asleep.
anyway ti\o extend the trial JUST a couple of days so i can test the features?
-
If it's working now, buy it. ;)
You won't find any better weather software for Macs. There's some issues I've documented and am still waiting on the developer to clean up but it's certainly worth the bucks if you want more than just a minimalistic data output.
-
Boracay, I was just about to release 2.0.2 .The only way to reset your trial is in the application itself. If you wait a few hours I'll update the 2.0.2 build for that and upload it - that will reset your trial period.
Look for 2.0.2 release in the development forum later (it'll probably be build 30) - that'll give you another 14 days.
-
thats great thanks.
very interested in the integration to the new "weathercloud.com" service
would buy it for that alone if it works well.
cheers
edit. yes downloaded 2.0.2 and have 14 days now. thanks
...but im stuck, 2 services...
CWOS, and weathercloud.com
the preferences window in weathercat shows them still showing/remaining as "waiting to start"
and NO reports are being sent?

Dear boracay and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

CWOS, and weathercloud.com

If the services are "waiting to start" something is wrong and that explains why data isn't being sent. Try taking a look at the WeatherCat log window. There might be some information there that explains the problem. You might also try turning on Copy Log Entries to Console Log (it is under the Advanced pane of the Preferences.) That might provide some additional information that you'll find by running the Console application (in the Utilities folder.)
Hope that get's you started on the troubleshooting path.
Cheers, Edouard [cheers1]

ok, so thats the data log.
our usage of this software is specifically for monitoring WIND data only.
so we don't have all those typical weather sensors its looking for.
we simply have a Davis anonometer, a Davis ananometer transmitter kit, and a Davis envoy. (into this is plugged the weather link IP data logger)
so, the goal is to show wind gauges superimposed over a webcam (really like the weatherCat realtime gauges)
I will use FTP in the next few days to generate the weather cat gauges into a basic webpage, however i was hoping to take advantage of the upload capability by default and use the weatherCLOUD page of wind gauges (such as here... http://app.weathercloud.net/d1155884382#wind)
is weather cat not uploading perhaps because i have too few of needed data collectors?
we only need WIND.

any clues?

Those messages are crystal clear. You aren't getting data from your station to your data logger. The problem is with your Davis hardware, not WeatherCat. Do you have a console? If so, are you receiving data there without any problems? It could be that your Weather Envoy is too far away from your instruments to get data.
I don't know how to use a Davis IP data logger, but I suspect there are ways to get some information on how the Envoy is performing. With the USB version of the data logger, you get WeatherLink software that allows you make some checks on your Davis hardware.
Sorry, but you've got some serious hardware troubleshooting on your hands.
Best of luck, . . . . Edouard
-
no thats not it.
as I wrote previously, the wind data is being recorded perfectly. we ONLY need the wind data.
there is no communication problem to the hardware (anonometer and transmitter)
the realtime wind gauges are displaying and moving perfectly within the weathercat app, in realtime., very nice.
its the actual uploading onto the 3rd party weather services, weathercat just stalles at "waiting to start..."
Developer, could it be that weathercat is seeing too many errors because we don't have all those sensors? and then not bothering to continue with function after seeing those errors?
-
Yes, it isn't going to work for you I'm afraid. It's waiting to get a good set of data - until that happens it'll just keep complaining.
-
thats so disappointing...
what about if i got outside temp data?
our use case is just to monitor the wind.
the gauges creation, and the uploading to the 3rd party services all looked PERFECT.
please please cater to a limited data case such as ours.
sigh
merry xmas

Dear boracay and WeatherCat fans,

Since you paid for a station, you might as well collect all the data so that WeatherCat would run properly. What do you have to lose by hooking up all the sensors? If the temperature data isn't interesting to you - just ignore it.
Edouard

we don't have those sensors, we specifically purchased a WIND only station from Davis.
we could purchase a temperature sensor, but only IF to help get weathercat working.
Im sorry for asking, but can somebody recommend perhaps another MAC based piece of software for us to try?
thank you

Before I switched to WeatherCat I used http://www.weathersnoop.com/try/ (http://www.weathersnoop.com/try/)
You can try that program for free also, only you have to restart it every time after 3 hours.
Another program http://www.weather-display.com/files.php (http://www.weather-display.com/files.php) also has a trial period, it is far more complex then the others.
I have my doubts as a programmer if if it can work. A weather-program is quite different from a "windspeed"-program. And I find it strange that WU accepts incomplete data. But never old enough to learn.
If you succeed with another program, please post your succes here also. And a link to your WU page, so I can see for myself that WU accepts windspeed only uploads.

Last I heard, Brian lost his hard drive and all code for Weather Display. He's working on the Windows version again, but doesn't plan on resurrecting the Mac version. This may not be the latest info, though.

Wow that's bad news about losing a bunch of source code! Sincere sympathies there - I can't imagine that happening! (Can't happen here, everything is locally backed up to another server and that backup is then replicated daily to Amazon S3). Indeed, the actual source code/project isn't even kept on the build machine's hard drive, it's accessed remotely from a server via iSCSI (which is running a raid 10 volume made up of a bunch of Samsung 840 SSD's). It's virtually impossible to lose more than say a day's worth even in the worse case scenario.
The reason WeatherCat won't start-up until it sees all primary sensors present and correct is to avoid a (common) problem where the user does some maintenance. They'll typically quit WeatherCat, put the console into maintenance mode (assuming a Davis station) then go do the maintenance. When done they boot WeatherCat and carry on with their life.
However, sometimes either a sensor has been left disconnected in the ISS or the console has been left in maintenance mode. The next day they realise no data is being recorded and get it fixed, the data downloads from the logger and everything is updated. Without this check they'd have been recording/uploading nothing and will very rapidly have an email into support asking how they can sort the mess out :)
-
for what its worth, weathersnoop3 is sending the WIND data only, perfectly thru to the 3rd party services.
unfortunately it does not have alarms functionality.
re weathercat.
I still wish to go with weathercat.
how about an easy (by default ALL on) preference panel that just ticks each sensor on/off?
that would allow less complex weather setups to use your program.
its so disappointing i cannot use it.
yesterday a couple of kids wedge a stick in the wind sensor, and thanks to your program the email alarm triggered and I ran down and caught the little ....grrr
its just that the "realtime/live" WIND data is not actually getting to the 3rd party services with weathercat
thats very unfortunate for us because we have an entire community of windsurfers and kitesurfers WISHING for our wind meter.
weathersnoop3, DOES send the data without issue.
sigh
edit: by the way, the only reason we need to get any weather program is because the Davis ip logger has a minimum refresh to its included weatherlink.com service of 15mins. thats a ridiculous limitation when you need to see visual realtime breeze
-
Dear boracay and WeatherCat fans,
I still wish to go with weathercat.
WeatherCat would work just as you like it if you added the temperature/humidity probe to your Davis station. I don't know how you managed to get a Davis station missing that part, but perhaps you should consider getting that probe. The temperature data is quite useful even if it isn't your primary focus.
Maybe you could search around and get a good deal on a used temperature/humidity probe from a station that has been damaged in some other way.
Cheers, Edouard

developer, is that correct?
wind sensor, and temperature sensor, weathercat upload function then works with that limited data set?
thank you
edit: we have decided to go with weathersnoop3 (purchased today)
it uploads today without issue.
thanks for the support time.
much appreciated
