Title: Instructions on replacing a Davis ISS circuit board?
Post by: elagache on October 23, 2014, 10:36:27 PM
Dear WeatherCat Davis fans,

This is a long shot and I'll post the same question on WX-Forum since that's a larger crowd, but after all this is home!  [sun2]

Would anybody have come across a set of instructions for replacing the circuit board on a Davis ISS?  It looks straightforward except for one thing.  The circuit board includes the radio antenna.  Here is a photo of the circuit board from the Scaled Instruments website:

I suppose you need to push the antenna through somehow, but that looks a little tricky.

Any advice would be most welcome!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Dear WeatherCat Davis station maintainers,

The folks on WXForum indeed had all the information needed to replace a Davis ISS circuit board.  It is described in this thread over there:

So, . . . if anybody else has this problem, that's where to go!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Dear WeatherCat Davis amateur surgeons,

The donor organ (new ISS circuit board and enclosure) arrived from Scaled Instruments yesterday.  I had found this Davis video thanks to the folks on the WXForum:

I followed the video carefully and in about 15 minutes I had replaced the circuit board and enclosure.  My station has been running happily ever since!  I hope I have at last solved my problem of da' battery glutton once and for all!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Nice to hear these things can be done. Hopefully you still have at least a couple of batteries left in your Herb-sized pack.

Dear Blick and WeatherCat Davis station caregivers,

Nice to hear these things can be done. Hopefully you still have at least a couple of batteries left in your Herb-sized pack.

Well, . . . . the good news is that I didn't run out, but just by 1 battery!! (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/eek2.gif)

I have a new 8-pack on order . . . . just in case!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Good. I think Herb gets a small commission on each 8-pack.  ;)

Ha, Ha! I wish. Congratulations Edouard! All's swell that ends well.

When I've got more time and motivation, I'm going to look into this to see I it can't be a path to repairing my wrecked sister station for less than sending it back to Davis.
