Title: Converting Lat/Lon to Hundredths of Minutes
Post by: parkernathan on April 19, 2014, 06:27:31 AM
I'm having issues converting my Lat/Lon to hundredths of minutes. How would I go about doing that?

My Lat/Lon is:

34.4600639 (34? 27' 36.2304")
-93.04961395 (-93? 2' 58.6104")

Thanks!

Hi Nathan and WeatherCat fans,

I'm having issues converting my Lat/Lon to hundredths of minutes. How would I go about doing that?

If anybody else has this problem there is a website that does the conversion from the FCC:

http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/DDDMMSS-decimal.html (http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/DDDMMSS-decimal.html)

The website has been there for a few years, hopefully it will be a resource we can count on.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Because there are 60 seconds in a minute:

Take your seconds and divide by 60 (36.2304/60) = .60384.  Add that to you minutes and round up 27 + .60384 = 27.60'

And another online Lat/Lon conversion calculator which is drop-dead easy to use:

I usually just fire up Google Earth, set the preferences to the format I want and find my location. Granted, I don't do this very often.
