Title: FTP upload not working
Post by: hanspost on December 01, 2013, 11:40:58 AM
Hello,
I've started the discussion on http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=976.new;topicseen#new, but will continue here.
Since a few weeks (early November) I have problems with my FTP Upload in WeatherCat. I am using the latest version of Weathercat and my iMac is running on OSX 10.9.

What is the problem?
When I setup my FTP connection and I test it (Weathercat-preferences-online-simple web-edit FTP details) I get a time-out error after 3 or 4 minutes at "checking url". When I upload the files manually with CuteFTP I have no problems at all.

What have I tried so far?
- Checked the App nap option. No result.
- Deleted my plist file and creature a new one. No result.
- Tested with 3 other hosting providers. No result.
- Deleted and reinstalled Weathercat. No result.

I think it has nothing to do with my hosting solutions. Everything worked fine until a few weeks and when I tried different other hosting companies I have exactly the same problems.

That leaves 2 options: the WeatherCat version or my iMac. To make sure it isn't Weathercat I want to do a clean install with version 1.2.1. Where can I download this version and how do I completely remove my current WeatherCat Software (I have a backup of my data)?

I was having an FTP problem last year with a different piece of weather software.  I was never able to work out just what the problem was, but it went away after I replaced my DSL modem.

During trouble shooting I opened a ticket with my internet provider and they assured me it was not their fault that the FTP was not working and it was just user error somehow.  Mine was a bit stranger because I was able to get FTP to some hosts, but not others.  The ones that I could not use were all owned by the same parent company so I was convinced it was their problem and not mine.  But I was unable to get anyone to admit it was an issue with their hardware, so I just switched my weather site to a hosting company I could reach.  The error messages I was getting seemed to suggest that the password was not being passed properly to the receiving computer.

Then I replaced the DSL modem in order to get N band wi-fi.  Just for fun, I tried FTP to one of the hosting companies I could not reach before and Bang, it worked.

I don't know if your problem is the same as mine.  Just pointing out that hardware that otherwise seems to be working fine can cause strange FTP problems.

Hello Hanspost,
You can download version 1.2.1 from the following link:
http://data.trixology.com/downloads/WeatherCat121.zip

The list of files you need to remove for a complete reinstall can be found on the wiki at:
http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Moving_a_WeatherCat_installation_from_one_computer_to_another
This is for moving from one computer to another - instead of moving the files, move them to the trash.

You probably already tried this but I can't see where you reported it, but did you reboot your Mac immediately after deleting your plist before you opened WeatherCat back up?

Yes I did the second time.
The first time I did forget that, so I've started all over again.

We haven't heard from you for a while so I assume you got the FTP working. How did you resolve things in the end?
