WeatherCat launch into "safe" mode?
« on: June 01, 2014, 10:10:06 PM »
Dear Stu and WeatherCat fans,

Paula's recent problem with the watchdog interfering with WeatherCat downloading from her weather station made me wonder about something.  Right now you can hold the control key when launching WeatherCat and get immediately to the backup menu so that you can restore your data from a backup.  Would it be useful to modify this behavior slightly to have a key allow WeatherCat to launch and then do nothing?  If there were such an option, then Paula could have done this to change her preferences without having to race before the watchdog process interrupted the downloading process.

The big question is - will there ever be a similar scenario?  Perhaps you want to look at the data in WeatherCat without connecting to the weather station to look for possible data corruption?  Perhaps to delete data using the editor and then recover it from the station data logger?  A similar rationale would be to check what is currently in your data to decide if you would better off to use data from a backup.

This is definitely a very half-baked idea.  Is there some practical need for a WeatherCat launching into "safe" mode?

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]
