Again, I disagree! I say, "It's COLD!" [freeze]

Looks like they've used the 'suggested' 30 foot height for the wind gauge! [tup] [lol]

Is that an RM Young anemometer, Mapleman1? The four bladed "prop" looks familiar.

I'd love to have a pole like that, but it sure would be hard getting it mounted on top of the house.

I think I could handle getting it mounted. Just a slight modification of this engineering project:

The hard part would be getting back inside the house after SWMBO saw it!

I could have posted this in the thread for Spring photos but we're not quite there yet, here in the mountains of Northern Utah.

Dear Blick, dfw, Herb, and WeatherCat shutterbugs

I could have posted this in the thread for Spring photos but we're not quite there yet, here in the mountains of Northern Utah.

Thanks for the great picture!  :)  Glad you still have some snow to photograph!  Around here we are still suffering under that darn high pressure ridge.  It is another February heat wave with record temperatures possible for Tuesday.  The mid-week storm is still on tap but the rain ending by the weekend.  No word on what happens after that but this morning the GFS model had the ridge returning for the rest of the month.  We'll just have to see.

Everybody in the west keep praying for precip!

Moon, tree, and anemometer (Re: Moods of the sky .. 2015-16)
« Reply #119 on: February 21, 2016, 10:36:17 PM »
Dear WeatherCat shutterbugs who aren't early birds, . . .

Okay, okay, so getting up before dawn isn't your style.  You can get into this photographing your weather instruments stuff by taking advantage instead of the evening light and perhaps another celestial body - the Moon.  How about a picture like this?

This is a case where a little post processing might make it even "mor' bettr'" but I decided to leave it just as it was taken.  I had an awful lot of trouble lining up the Moon at the top of the tree and keeping the mast of anemometer parallel to the edge of the frame.  This is the old-fashioned sort of photographic skill that everyone needs to have to get beyond mediocre photos.

Don't have time to take pictures like this - no excuse!  You can find out were the Moon is using either websites or various apps.  Given my anemometer, I know that I need to take pictures with objects rising.  So I checked to see when the Moon was rising so I had some idea when I might be able to take pictures like this.  In this case, I had finished preparing the ingredients for dinner and had a few minutes before warming up the pan.  That was time enough to snag this photo!

So don't be intimidated and . . . . give it a try!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]
