Busy start to the Eastern Pacific hurricane season.

Dear WeatherCat extreme weather watchers (preferably from a safe distance!)

The Eastern Pacific has been surprisingly good at giving birth to tropical storms this early in the season.

Tropical storm Eugene just weakened to below storm category while there is a new tropical storm: Fernanda.  While these storms rarely do much harm to people, they do contribute to the monsoonal flow.  There was some concern that Eugene might spin some clouds toward the west coast of the United States.  That seems unlikely now, but perhaps Fernanda will provide some additional rainfall for the deserts of the Southwest.

Cheers, Edouard

Dear WeatherCat extreme weather watchers (preferably from a safe distance!)

I don't know why, but recently, the Eastern Pacific has been more active at this time of year than the Atlantic and Caribbean.   In the Atlantic, tropical storm Don is now near Venezuela.  However in the Eastern Pacific, Fernanda strengthened into a hurricane, there is a new tropical storm: Greg, and there is a tropical depression Eight-E.  You can keep up with this cast of characters at . . . .  the National Hurricane Center

Where else?  ;D
