WeatherCat General Discussion / Re: MacOS Sonoma 14.1.2 crash
« Last post by JosBaz on February 02, 2024, 04:14:08 PM »
Sorry to hear you are having problems.

I'm running WC on a Mac Mini with macOS 14.3 without problems, which doesn't help you of course, but maybe it does mean it is worth looking at 'cleaning' your system in general. There is a nice free utility called Onyx which helped me out a few times in the past. It is basically a GUI for macOS' built-in maintenance and cleaning commands.

Worth giving a try and low risk (never had nasty side effects for me). YMMV.

Make sure to pick the right version for your system, and be patient when it is running.

Good luck.

Dear Steve, Blick, X-Air, and WeatherCat climate watchers,

Thank you for your contributions!

Okay, here is report for northern California with the usual plug to Grand's WeatherCatRCP:

I had to wait until today to collect the data since we had quite a bit of rain last night and I didn't want to miss including any of it.  It was the difference for the month.  Here is screenshot of my the graph of my difference from average rainfall synthetic channel taken early last evening:

As you can see, it bounced around but remained very close to the predicted averages for the entire month of January.

Who's next?

   Calmer than average (a wind run of 361 miles versus an average of 1,058)

However, we didn’t experience any of it, as we’ve been in Florida since the 8th. 😁

General Weather Discussion / Stormy skies . . (Re: Moods of the sky . . . 2023-24)

Dear WeatherCat observers of the moods of the sky,

We are expecting a powerful storm to roll though over the next 24 hours or so.  Yesterday morning there was something of a warning of this at sunrise:

For all the hype about El Niño, it will take this storm on the last day of January to finally bring us to above normal rainfall for the month.

I really think a Custom Web solution can handle everything you want/need. The Dev has created a way that allows an almost infinite number of ways we can use the data our weather instruments monitor. He created several dozen "tags" that you can place in many different files.  {see pages 197 - 206 and 206 - 213 for how to combine them} Then you set the time interval for the app to process that file and convert the "tag" an actual value or image.

For example, I have a plain text file that lists which gauges and and graphs I want uploaded (see partial example below)
Code: [Select]
<!-- Custom Gauges -->
...
CUSTOMGAUGE$1$ <!-- Pressure 250px -->
CUSTOMGAUGE$2$ <!-- Humidity 200px -->
CUSTOMGAUGE$3$ <!-- Temp 250px -->

<!--CUSTOMGAUGE_$_4_$ --><!-- Heat Index 200px -->
CUSTOMGAUGE$5$ <!--Windchill 200px -->
CUSTOMGAUGE$6$ <!-- Dew point 200px -->
...
<!-- CUSTOM GRAPHs -->
CUSTOMGRAPH$1$ <!-- Daily Temperature & Dew Point -->
CUSTOMGRAPH$2$ <!-- Daily Pressure -->

<!--CUSTOMGRAPH_$_3_$ --><!-- Daily Humidity & Heat Index(3) -->
CUSTOMGRAPH$11$ <!--Daily Humidity & Windchill(11) -->
...
WC processes this file and changes the "tag" into name of actual graph or gauge and uploads it to my web host. In the "Additional Files" pref, I have set this "custom-gauges-graphs.txt" to be uploaded every 12 minutes.

The file that tells WC to upload my movies is even simpler:
Code: [Select]
MOVIE$
DAILY_MOVIE$
WCAM$

The "hard" part is figuring out where you want to put what on your web site. I think you'll find that a single page is not the best plan. The main 'problem' is using the correct html to enable moving the user from one page and back. But even that is a matter of using a "link" to another html file and you are already using that html function in a limited way with your webcam images.
<a href="https://wx-watch.co.uk/weathercat/webcam.html" target="_blank">

There are many free tutorials available for learning the basics of html, the system that builds the basic framework of any site. You are already using CSS which is the principle means of styling the html. ;D You are even using javascript (which I don't [blush]).  I'm sure you can do it! Just don't expect your site to be "flashy" like many commercial sites are! We're offering usually local weather date (current and/or historic), just make it as easy as possible for folks to see that stuff (sorry for the technical jargon cmu:-) )!

My website (cobbled together over years!!) uses elements from the Custom Pages as well as the Standard Pages

https://wx-watch.co.uk

It is the standard pages and the webcam I wish to update more often
