Is there anybody out here who can report positive experiences with upgrading to El Capitan?

Or shall I be the first one...  ::)

Reinhard

I can now report an uptime approaching 48 hours...just in time to try 2.2.2 Build 18. But the El Capitan upgrade wasn't without some colorful-language moments. Thanks to grenow, and the fix he identified to squash the font call problem, it's been rock solid after that. But note from the Station Details area, I use WeatherLink IP so I haven't had to contend with a Serial to USB connection driver issue. Had I been running that sort of a comm arrangement, I certainly would not have migrated to El Capitan for awhile.

Thanks for mentioning this. I use the Davis WeatherLinkIP? data logger as well and I've been waiting for some other brave soul to try the upgrade first. Looks like you may be that guy, mate.

? (After Download, before Installing, took the Installer of EC onto an external drive to not download it again for my other Macs)

Reinhard, can you remember approximately how large of a file this was?

Blick, were you just wanting to know the size of the small installer file or the entire El Capitan download?

El Capitan is 6.08GB.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x-el-capitan/id1018109117?mt=12

I also always prepare a bootable thumb drive for multiple installs. This won't apply to you but for any lurkers, Ars Tech posts a step-by-step reminder before every major upgrade:

And I saw Dan Frakes posted a similar article on Macworld:

Just a small update: Running more than 24 hours now with El Capitan and WeatherCat on my dedicated Weather Mac mini (Mid 2011). No issues to report.
Reinhard,
So you haven't been having a problem with the drivers that others have been mentioning? I'm running the same Mac for my weather server that you are. Haven't upgraded yet to El Capitan. Your upgrade, apparently has been without any problems. Did you have to update the Silcon Labs driver?

No problems with existing SiLab driver, no need to download it on my side. I have installed this one (see screenshot).

Reinhard, can you remember approximately how large of a file this was?

As Felix mentions, it is about 6 GB. After downloading it I copied it on a network hard disk and from here into the programs folder of the Mac I want to upgrade.

Cheers,
Reinhard

Dear Felix, Blick, Reinhard, and WeatherCat sys-admins, . . .

I also always prepare a bootable thumb drive for multiple installs. This won't apply to you but for any lurkers, Ars Tech posts a step-by-step reminder before every major upgrade:

Thanks for posting this.  As usual I'm going to quietly wait until the dust settles before making any attempt.  However, I do appreciate knowing how to make an installer thumb-drive.

Cheers, Edouard

Testing the Cat 2.21b110 on back up machine, using weather link IP. Up for 24 hrs and all is OK. Won't change main machine over till new usb driver comes out. I hear that is a big issue with 10.11, also will wait for 10.11.1.

That didn't work. Looks like the Serial to USB is broken by El Capitan. I have just ordered a new weather station with native USB data that is supported by Weather Cat, Oregon WMR200A along with a UV sensor. The old Le Crosse was getting a bit long in the tooth anyway and I had already replaced the wind unit once. I'll see how it all goes.

Got the WMR200 installed, worked almost straight away. I did get a reply from the Keyspan serial to USB adapter people and they said they don't have drivers for El Capitan and they didn't give any indication of if any would be available. Perhaps native USB connection is the way to go. Some manufactures might be left behind, although the Windows experience may be different.

Spent the day upgrading to El Capitan. Everything smooth as could be with WeatherCat. I did lose Hot Corners in OS X. Spent two hours on the phone with AppleCare. They are stumped. Some backroom engineers are going to call me back Monday. Also could not connect with my Logitech Solar-powered Wireless Keyboard for Mac. Called Logitech. They had me download and install a new Logitech Control Center for Apple's Preference Panes. Back in action. Sometimes I love technology. Sometimes I don't.

I have been running El Capitan server for a couple of months now.  The mysql people fixed the autostart and so far no problems.  I do have the server set to reboot every Sunday morning a 0300hrs CST.  I do not remember what brand USB to serial dongle I have, but it uses an FTDI chip and apparently El Capitan has a driver for it that works just fine.  Still using the old La Crosse under WeatherCat Version 2.22   Build 31 (2.2.2).

Does anyone know if WeatherCat Version 1.23 Build 16 (1.2.3) will work with El Capitan?   I am currently on Yosemite 10.10.5 running WeatherCat 1.23 with no problems.

Thanks,

Denver

I was using it originally and no trouble.  I just upgraded for the gauges.

Wait! Apple have REAL NASTY bug  in 10.11 which means WeatherCat will eventually die. You'll need version 2.2.2 build 31 (or later) if running on 10.11, which works around the problem.

Well I am in no hurry to install El Capitan anyways...

Do you have any technical information on the bug?
