I think I may have sussed my problem. Both times WC has stopped running, there have been dozens of references to a Teamviewer service trying to start. I deleted this application months ago, but there were still some stray com files in my library.

I have now deleted all these stray files, over 100 in total, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the problem is solved.

Apart from that, El Capitan seems ok to me, though I haven't noticed much difference. I've not needed to use any of the new features yet, but the new system font does seem much cleaner and crisp.

Is there anybody out here who can report positive experiences with upgrading to El Capitan?

Or shall I be the first one...  ::)

I am trying in a sandbox partition right now. So far so good, even with existing account. However, just to be on the safe side, I followed the recommendation here before launching WeatherCat:

http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=1838.msg16562#msg16562

and deleted the .GlobalPreferences NSFont in terminal and rebooted the machine.

Only been running for 30 minutes so far, but I will report back if any problems.

In the meantime I am doing a backup with SuperDuper! from my now used system. After it I will risk an attempt.

Will report back.

Reinhard,

Glad to see another SuperDuper! user on here. You should set up a sandbox partition to play around with upgrades. However, one thing not mentioned in the user guide is that to get an OS upgrade install to work on the sandbox, you have to have the entire drive partitioned as GUID (under options in Disk Utility) on an Intel-based Mac.

If all goes well and I let things bake for a while and am happy, I will upgrade my regular system to 10.11.

Success, indeed.

? Backup (in my case SuperDuper!)
? Download ElCapitan
? (After Download, before Installing, took the Installer of EC onto an external drive to not download it again for my other Macs)
? Enjoy or frustrate - very long 17 minutes to wait
? After automatic restart I did another restart >Apple menu >Restart

Success.

The whole install procedure dues lots of more than an hour - so be patient.  :)

Let it run now,
will report back tomorrow...

Cheers,
Reinhard

I've been up for 5.5 hours now with no crashes on 10.11. I plan to let this run for as long as possible to see if there are any issues.

I upgraded to El Capitan on my laptop. this morning. Haven't had any problems. Tested a couple of vital apps fearful they wouldn't work, but both are doing fine. One was VMFusion 7. Fortunately, it continues to operate in El Capitan. VMWare had required paid upgrades to their software in new Mac OS. Have not upgraded my weather server. Others on the forum are expressing problems running WeatherCat in El Capitan.

My advise is always to wait for at least the .1 update - as we've seen (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=1838.15) there will be OS bugs in a first release which will affect stability. Then there's the issue of driver compatibility as well...

At the very least, if you want to run on a .0 release, have the 'Monitor & Relaunch WeatherCat' ticked in its Misc 1 preferences.

Well upgraded my main computer tonight and the one thing that doesn't work is the serial to USB adapter. Reading on this it appears that SIP disables the adapter. I have turned it off on my laptop, secondary machine, but have to down load Weather Cat to test it. Sort of frustrating as the weather station is working fine, but is serial for communication. I'll see how it goes.

That didn't work. Looks like the Serial to USB is broken by El Capitan. I have just ordered a new weather station with native USB data that is supported by Weather Cat, Oregon WMR200A along with a UV sensor. The old Le Crosse was getting a bit long in the tooth anyway and I had already replaced the wind unit once. I'll see how it all goes.

Just a small update: Running more than 24 hours now with El Capitan and WeatherCat on my dedicated Weather Mac mini (Mid 2011). No issues to report. Upgraded my other two Macs to 10.11 without problems (MacBook Air Early 2014 and iMac 24'' Early 2009). The Captain is behaving well, especially the new system font and the clean looking excites me. Sorry for all others that are having troubles with EC in connection with WC.

Cheers,
Reinhard

Reinhard,
So you haven't been having a problem with the drivers that others have been mentioning? I'm running the same Mac for my weather server that you are. Haven't upgraded yet to El Capitan. Your upgrade, apparently has been without any problems. Did you have to update the Silcon Labs driver?
