Sylvester
« on: January 26, 2018, 10:40:38 AM »
Just gone onto High Sierra 10.13.3 and upgraded to Weathercat 2.44.

Is there an option to run Sylvester ? I was running an older version of Weathercat and Sylvester was freezing and not posting. So I upgraded to the latest version and cant find a Sylvester option.

I think you've been hit by the 'Apple Knows Best' syndrome. These threads should help explain the problem:
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Dear faymondo, X-Air, and WeatherCat faithful,

Is there an option to run Sylvester ?

As X-Air noted Sylvester is broken on the current version of macOS.   ;) However, if (as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz was asked to do,) you tap your slippers and repeat "there is no place like home." . . . . . . . .  [rolleyes2]

Okay so that won't get you what you want either.  Still, if you keep da' faith , perhaps your twitter problems with WeatherCat will be solved soon.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

I think what Edouard is referring to is the upcoming new version of WC. [lol]

Thanks for the replies. I had held off updating OS to let any bugs etc be ironed out. Did not know Sylvester did not work or wouldn't have upgraded OS.

Oh well hopefully WC3 will be upon us soon.

I am assuming I just cant use my time machine to restore to the old OS ?

My second link takes you to a WC thread where Edouard links to an OWC page that details a couple of ways to downgrade. Here is a perninent comment in that description:
Quote
With the right preliminary preparations in place before you perform an upgrade, downgrading can be fairly easy, though a bit time consuming. Without the proper preparations, downgrading can be difficult, to say the least.[emphasis added]
should you attempt the downgrade, this is the OWC page: macOS Reversion: How to Downgrade from High Sierra I will only suggest that, personally, being able to automatically add a tweet, is not enough of a concern for me to downgrade. Of course, I have not even gone to macOS 10.12 Sierra on the mini that is running my WC app and I am still debating upgrading to macOS 10.13 High Sierra on this iMac. [blush] "Good luck, young Will Robinson!"  [lol]

Given that your website claims to be running WeatherCat V3.00, Build 2130 (64 bit), Edouard, are you able/allowed to say if it does indeed restore the functionality Sylvester used to have? Either from your own experience or that of other testers? Knowing that would help those of us who miss it know if we should continue to work on alternatives.  :)

Thanks,

John

Thanks - I see you're running a more recent build, and https://twitter.com/TimberLakesWx gives me some hope.  :)

John - thinking he might trawl through the forum elite and see who else has a site that gives more hints...

Dear John, Blick, and WeatherCat "faithful,"  ;)

Given that your website claims to be running WeatherCat V3.00, Build 2130 (64 bit), Edouard, are you able/allowed to say if it does indeed restore the functionality Sylvester used to have?

[wink] . . . . Of course not!  Don't you know that faith isn't founded upon knowledge?  If you were truly among the WeatherCat faithful you would simply believe! . . . .

 [rolleyes2] . . .  Oh brother! . . . .  lol(1)

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Hahaha. No one has ever accused me of being elite, except Herb, who made enough money off of Amazon battery commissions from Edouard to retire and watch his WeatherCat gauges full time.  [biggrin]

I believe the problem with Sylvester is actually due to the new OS, not WC. But The Dev is very clever and has sometimes been able to work around problems cause by the Mothership. ThU5:-) [cheer]
