Title: Leuven-Template now End-Of-Live, but still supported
Post by: wvdkuil on December 17, 2013, 03:37:54 PM
Latest release  2.8 Release 2.4 of the Leuven-Template now supports WeatherCat.

All info: here (http://support.leuven-template.eu/)

Download: http://leuven-template.eu/download.php?lang=en[/url
http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/_template2/template.php?lang=en&step3

Support: [url=http://support.leuven-template.eu/]http://support.leuven-template.eu/ (http://leuven-template.eu/download.php?lang=en)

At the moment there are over 70 230 sites using this template of which (only ?) 10 use WeatherCat.

A list of known users can be found at: http://leuven-template.eu/userlist.php?lang=en (http://leuven-template.eu/userlist.php?lang=en)
http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/_template2/template.php?lang=en&step4

Weathercat is running on the mini next to 4 windows weather-programs programs all using VVP and 1 Davis
I am testing the template with WeatherCat for 2 weeks now using a spare MacBook. I will move the program shortly to a MacMini on which I run the other Mac and Windows programs.

My own weather-sites Wilsele (http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/)and Herent  (http://www.weerstation-herent.be/weather2/index.php) use the Leuven-Template also but are always 1 or 2 releases behind the current release to give support for older versions of the Template.

I hope this is a welcome addition to WeatherCat eco-system.

Sorry for those old links, last modified on 11 november 2015.

LATEST RELEASE 2.8 for all supported weatherprograms and for all regions.

Please always look at http://leuven-template.eu/ (http://leuven-template.eu/) for support, latest releases, issues and so on. And use the support system to ask for help.

Wim,

Thank you so much for creating the WeatherCat version of the Leuven-Template! I have been reading about your progress on the WXForum thread (http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=18819.0) and delighted to see another option for Mac users.

I'll read through the documentation later, and I might set up a separate page to test it out on my web site.

Thanks,
Steve

Wim:

Thanks for posting this template. I have quickly reviewed it and think it's a great addition to the template options available for WeatherCat. I'll do a more thorough review after the holidays.

Goed gedaan mijnheer!

Hi all - I don't know if it was me or if others had the same problem. using YOWINDOW the XML file needed to have the temp units as it defaults to metric.

<!-- L$ D$ -->
<!--YOWINDOW XML - PWS SPECS WeatherCat  version: 2.30 date: 2013-12-19 22:32:17 -->
<!-- Remove auto_update section if wanting the default, otherwise in seconds -->
<!-- Remove snow section if not inputting snow -->
<!-- Remove the uv and solar tags if those sensors aren't present -->
<response>

    <auto_update>
      <interval value="300"/>

Yowindow needs units for weather variables:
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I am changing the templates for the yowindow gadget to include the units. I will do some testing the coming days.
Yowindow does not display UV or solar:
I have not seen those values displayed either.  Also on their site there are no examples with UV or solar displayed.
So I wonder if anyone else has a clue?

Happy Holidays & New Year

Units added for all weather conditions.  Seems to be OK now.

I was able to find how to turn on UV but not solar.
in the "wsAjaxDashboard.php" file you need to change the lines that start with(lines 393 & 428);
"<param name="flashvars" value="location_id=gn:'.$SITE['YoWindowPlaceID'].'&amp;location_name='.$SITE['organ'].$url.'
&amp;time_format=24&amp;us=custom&amp;u_temperature='.$yrnoTemp.'&amp;u_wind_speed='.$yrnoWind.'&amp;u_pressure='.$yrnoBaro.'&amp;u_distance='.$yrnoDist.'&amp;u_rain_rate='.$yrnoRain.'&amp;lang='.$lang.'&amp;background=transparent&amp;copyright_bar=false &amp;current_weather_url=http://carefreeweather.silvertooth.us/yowindow.xml&amp;i_uv=true&amp;i_solar=true"/>"

also to get your weather change the "current_weather" area

I like this template and have tried to install it on my weather site today at www.uranusweather.com/weather2/

I have followed the receipt on http://wiki.leuven-template.eu/doku.php?id=how_to_install

So far almost everything is ok (warnings, forecasts, sun/moon almanac), but I am struggling with the most important thing. It seems like I haven?t managed to push the right button to upload the live current weather conditions. It is only the default values who are visible on the site. You can also see that the time and date is not correct - standing still on 13-12-2013 16:09

I guess I am only a few steps away to succeed with installing this template. Can anyone guide me through the last steps I may have missed?

I guess my problem has something to do with uploading of the 4 files; realtimeTags.txt, wsTagsWC.php, yowindow.xml, graphs.htx. I tried to upload them manually. Before I did that, the time and date on the site at "Last updated" was 13-12-2013 16:09, and the values on the weather parameter on the current conditions was different fixed values, temperature i.e. was 6,7 C.

After uploading manually the above mentioned files, the date and time switched to 01-01-1970 01:00. The time is not moving, standing still at 01:00. The values on the weather parameters are all switched to 0,0.

On WeatherCat Preferences, on Custom Web - additional files I have put in the four files mentioned above, see attached picture.

I am writing an wanswer at this moment. You did not set the upload information on the preferences => On-line => Custom Web => Main tab.
There is a test button there to see if the files are processed.
There is a test button also when you edit the ftp details.

Succes, Wim

You have to first test if the ftp-upload on the main page works.
2. Then according to the wiki you put the 4 downloaded files on the same mac as WeatherCat in a easy to acces folder, f.i. a folder "tagsFiles" on your desktop.
? You put the website in a folder on your Mac as I see in the picture ? But the source location of the "to be processed" files can not be the same location as the resulting files after processing.
3. You rename those files in the "tagsFiles" folder as instructed in the WiKi
4. You set the upload instructions on WeatherCat ⇒ Preferences? ⇒ On-Line ⇒ Custom Web ⇒ main
4. You test if everything is Ok using the test buttons.
Windows should appear on your Mac with the yowindow.xml and the other 3 files.

Succes, Wim

I updated the upload part of the wiki http://wiki.leuven-template.eu/doku.php?id=uploadwc4 (http://wiki.leuven-template.eu/doku.php?id=uploadwc4) with a more comprehensive description of the FTP/upload settings for those users who do not already upload files to a webserver.

And a happy new year to all.

Wow, thanx!!! After following your new Wiki-steps more exactly, it worked. Thanx again for quick response!

I think I need to do some small finishing touches here and there to make my weather site perfect. One thing I would like to adjust if possible, is the precipitation radar map. I live in Norway, and I would like to adjust so I can see whole of Norway on the map. Is that possible to adjust, and if it is, how?

Well I am glad that everything is working out better now.

Adapting the rain radars is not a big task.
To find a suitable radar map is the most difficult part.
You could than either adapt the weather2/inc/rain3Sources.php script which is capable of displaying three radar maps. Or better build your own page using the inc/newPage.php script.

Well I will take a look at that later. Not a big issue.

Another question: I just discovered that the yesterday`s values on my site are not working. If you take a look at my site (www.uranusweather.com) you can se that the yesterday`s values are high 0,6 and low also 0,6 both values at the same time, at 12.20. That temperature value is the same as the real temperature at last midnight. Any tip on how to deal with that?

Hello Rob,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Running 7 different weather-programs is not a real excuse.  I should have seen this earlier. It was a classic case of "a quick copy-paste and not enough checking".

As always make a back-up copy of the files you are going to replace first!
It is tested and runs at http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/weather2/index.php?p=10&wp=WC

Atached is a zip with two files:
copy wsTagsWC.htx to your weather2/uploadWC folder on the webserver
copy wsTagsWC.php to your "tagFiles" folder on the MAC were WeatherCat is running.
After a fresh upload the dashboard will display correct times and values.

@ALL North American users - NOAA forecast error

For one reason or another (sloppiness) I let a test setting in the NOAA Plain forecast script so that it defaults to Brandford CT.

When Dennis Hall from http://rathdrumweather.us/ notified me about this (thanks Dennis) I discovered also that, in the NOAA xml,  for the rural areas a different field is used as for the cities.

Please replace the two NOAA scripts in weather2/noaa with these new ones, AFTER making a backup copy of the old scripts.

There is also a download available with all updates since the original 2.4 release.
You find this at the download area: http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/_template2/template.php?lang=en&step3 (http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/_template2/template.php?lang=en&step3)

Have a nice sunday,

The MetNo API has changed since 2014-09-09.
There is a quick  but incomplete temperary solution.
http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=23789.msg228599#msg228599

You can install the latest version from
http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/  => tab "Leuven PHP scripts for use on your own website:"
There you find the latest versions of all scripts with instructions to use in the Saratoga or Leuven-template or in your own build website.

Please check once every few months as API's change .

OK. So the the API call results correct  information.

But you still have to implement the latest script at your convenience. There are a lot of new weather-icons and the weather-descriptions changed also.

Hi again,

Yesterday and today I have had problems with my website. The main page http://www.uranusweather.com/weather2/index.php (with the Leuven-Template) is quite empty, only gray without any text or symbols. The original main page - the WeatherCat original main page, is still working and is up to date with all weather values - http://www.uranusweather.com/index.html I therefore believe the ftp-settings should be alright.

Could the problems have anything to do with the Leuven-Template files, maybe one file has gone corrupt or something like that?

The webserver delivering metar xml is on maintenace this weekend. The code in wsmetar.xml was not up to its taksk and ended in errors (at all 120 other sites facing this problem).

I enclose a new version of the script
1. make a copy / backup of weather2/wsMetarxml.php
2 unzip the attachement
3 replace script on server with unzipped one.

Does anyone know if I can use Google Drive as a web server for the Leuven Template?
Good morning,
The Drive in Google Drive is a "storage device"
Like a disk-drive  or a network drive.
Not more, not less.  The word Google could be translated by "cloud".
So it is a storage space on the internet which behaves like a local or networked drive.

So the answer is: no.
To run any template or script you need a web-server, where the word "server" is the important part.
Not a networked disc.  The least important part in selectiong a webserver is the size of the allowed data of the webserver.

OK.  Thanks :)

By the way....my grandmother was Flemish and my grandfather Walloon.  They immigrated to the U.S. in 1923 and they did not get along with each other so well.  Which I guess is not uncommon with those two?

Greetings,

I have the following line of code in my tag file which is causing a problem after processing:

Code: [Select]
if ($ws['gustAct'] <= $ws['windAct']) {$ws['gustAct'] = $ws['windAct'];}
The '<=' is being replaced with '&lt;=' and causing a PHP error with an unexpected ';' on my site. The current beta for WeatherCat 2.10 (beta 2) includes the following change:

2. Custom web - occurrences of '<=' and '>=' are now replaced with '&lt;=' and '&gt;='

I've commented out this line for now to keep running, but don't really have a workaround.

Thanks for help or suggestions.

Then there will be a lot of errors when processing PHP custom web pages.
So do the developers want us to go back to plain html of txt files?

I will try to find a workaround until release 3 of the template.

Can you uncomment the gust line and change it to less than (  <  ) as the calculated result is the same.
Code: [Select]
if ($ws['gustAct'] <   $ws['windAct']) {$ws['gustAct'] = $ws['windAct'];}
There are multiple lines in the file with a single  <  or >, and they all should be untouched, I hope.
Could you, please ZIP a copy of wsTagsWC.php and post it (or mail it)?
So I can check the file.

So I can check the file.

There is only one instance of '<=' or '>=' but here is the file just in case.

Alan
Hello Alan,
The file you zipped is the INPUT file for WeatherCat. It is not processed and contains all lines with WeatherCat tags
Code: [Select]
$ws['tempMaxTodayTime'] = wdDate('STAT$TEMPERATURE:MAX:TODAY:TIME$');

What I want to check is the file after being processed by WeatherCat, just to make sure there are no other changes. There are multiple different webservers around so an extra check of the contents after processing can do no harm.

The problem is that it is impossible to look into a php file on a webserver directly as the webserver and / or the browser will process and so change the file.
Example: http://www.eastdallasweather.com/weather2/printSite.php?tags&pw=
All characters seem to be OK, but that is because the &lt; is displayed as a < in a browser

And as you can see in the link to your tags file, there are at least two other errors to take care off.

Wim

This is a bug in beta 2 - see http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=1592.msg13408#msg13408 - go back to beta 1 for now and I'll get it fixed in the next build.

HELP needed

I am stuck finding a solution for tags with dates. This is what I have in my tag files:
Code: [Select]
   45 | $ws['tempMinMonthTime'] = date('YmdHis',strtotime('STAT$TEMPERATURE:MIN:THISMONTH:TIME$'));
   46 | $ws['tempMinYearTime'] = date('YmdHis',strtotime('STAT$TEMPERATURE:MIN:THISYEAR:TIME$'));
It is translated  by  WeatherCat into
Code: [Select]
   45 |   45 | $ws['tempMinMonthTime'] = date('YmdHis',strtotime('5 mars 2015 05:43'));
   46 | $ws['tempMinYearTime'] = date('YmdHis',strtotime('1 janv. 2015 07:04'));
Than  translated by the php parser into
Code: [Select]
$ws['tempMinMonthTime'] = '19700101010000';
$ws['tempMinYearTime'] = '19700101010000';

The php scripts expect  "English" month name as in
Code: [Select]
   45 | $ws['tempMinMonthTime'] = date('YmdHis',strtotime('12 Sep 2014 07:00'));translated to
Code: [Select]
$ws['tempMinMonthTime'] = '20140912070000';
I understand that the date-format with the "French" month names comes from the localized settings on the Mac.

QUESTION: Is there a way to instruct WeatherCat to generate dates in either a different format or with English month names?
Without messing up the other WeatherCat output to the users window which should remeain in his/her own language?

I tried to scan the forum and my WeatherCat docs, but as English is not my native language I seem to be overlooking the obvious.

If there is a solution, does it work for the previous release also? A template has to support the latest and previous release of the WeatherProgram.

Dear Wim and WeatherCat tinkerers,

QUESTION: Is there a way to instruct WeatherCat to generate dates in either a different format or with English month names?

Unfortunately, this problem has occurred from time to time.  Apple is very thorough about localization, but that leads to problems when you create extensions to WeatherCat that need to be in another programming environment.

Try sending Stu (Stuart Ball, WeatherCat developer) and email and see if he might have an idea on how to get around the problem within WeatherCat itself.  You can find the emails on this web page:

http://trixology.com/contact-us/ (http://trixology.com/contact-us/)

Theres a tag (ISO8601DATES$) which will cause all dates in STAT$ type tags to output in ISO8601 format - put this somewhere in your file then all dates/times in STAT$ tags will be of the format YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss (thus removing any localisation).

Thank you VERY much.
I was not aware of this very usefull tag.

Tested it and all dates (and times) are now "standardized" and ready for clean PHP processing.

I can now remove the extra code for the French users i did put in to circumvent the "problem"

@ALL
A new user of the template started with a very old version. My fault, sorry for that and my excuses to other users who have had the same problem.

I forgot to update the first post of this thread. So it contained until now links to OLD (very old) versions.  I keep those old downloads as sometimes a user needs a fresh download of an old release.

The current (25 April 2015) release is 2.6g and has a WiKi and  a support system. All can be accessed by using one link http://leuven-template.eu/  (http://leuven-template.eu/)

If someone finds or knows an old URL, please send me a PM and I will change it.

I would have sworn I downloaded the latest version yesterday, but the contents.txt shows "contents text  template 2.6e  2014-11-29", even though the downloaded file is named "wsTemplate_2_6.zip". Perhaps you can include/add the entire version number in that zipped file? And maybe edit that content.txt? :)
Details, details, DETAILS! [banghead]
As my son, at Apple says, when people ask him if he can code something, "Sure! Programming is really just typing!" [rolleyes2]

The exact version number is shown in the footer when installed.
I will check tomorrow the contents of a fresh download..
And I will follow your advice to change names to be the same as the release.

I am no moderator, but maybe an extra new discussion under the same WeatherCat Web Templates (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?board=5.0) will be easier. Other may find a solution far quicker when facing a similar problem, certainly when the topic matches the discussion. At least it seems to be so with me.
Also when you start a discussion, example "Leuven - gauges show no rain" the discussion is not messed up with new release announcements and so on as this thread  is meant for.

wsSideColom)" page for the latest updated files: thunderRadar.php and wsSideColom.php dated 2015-04-29. There was a typo in the URLs used by us yanks in the latest version of the template. Others are probably not seeing any problem. [tup]

Anyone here using the Leuven Template and having the "Rain Radar" (WU regional and local radar map/image) displayed?

The dev helped me get the "Thunder Radar" map fixed.

I suspect my problem is caused by WU changing how they link to things. I'd sure appreciate knowing the link that is working on your site, using this template. [tup]

You can see what I'm trying to accomplish by clicking the "Rain Radar" image at the bottom of the left-hand column of links.

Never mind, I think the problem I'm having is alluded to in another post where a "graphic" is created by tons of javascript. That makes unusable as a dynamic "image". This is a decision by the company that creates the map and they, of course, need people to visit their site, not just download an image on their server. "Page" hit counts are what they need to keep their advertising rates up. Non-add covered images don't help. That's just business! ;)

Thanks!
1. the link in your post leads to an error pages as the url has an extra i character at the end. http://mailscamalert.com/weather2/i
So that is not very helpfull.  Better click on a link after posting just to test.

2. It takes some time for a bl**dy foreigner to locate cities and  areas you want to have in your page but with which I am not familiar.
It is not immidiatly clear that Mephis TN is using "united-states-regional/ky/bowling-green" radar area. Maybe it is simple for you, not for me.

In 21 hours you opend a ticket on the support system and posted twice at this forum. Please "patience" is also a very usefull word.
This is a one person support undertaking. And I try to do it as quickly as possible.
1. It takes some time to investigate and locate the new mosaic page. No luck yet.
2. Then  it takes some time to adapt another script.
3. and to test it with different regions to be sure.
4. and then to find the areas you want to have.

Attached a special version of the weather2/inc/rain3Sources.php script.
It should work out of the box, as it is doing at its testsite http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/northam/index.php?p=14 (http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/northam/index.php?p=14)

Thanks for your, as usual, prompt reply and catching the erer! That's only the sekond won of thee yeer for mi! However, I agree with your admonison to test links just before and especially after, posting. I ges that iz my thurd erer! [blush] It's a bit irrelevant now, so I corrected it but 'struckthrough' most of the post. :o

I'm sorry you did not see the second post after the one you are replying to. I think I know why the WU maps are not being displayed, except with by my unsatisfactory) html link method. It may be the same problem others had reported about a different web site changing how they do things. WU is in the middle of a lot of changes, and they may not be particularly interested in having people use their maps without actually visiting their site.

I plan on going back to the method you already have in your scripts which do display a map of an different area of the US. I'll see if I can track down where those are coming from and how to change the area displayed.

I should have more prominently reported your quick help on the two problems/questions I asked you about. My apologies.

The fact that you are a 'one-person' support (and development) shop, is the main reason I started this thread asking for a reply from others who might be using your template. I deleted a draft email I had prepared to send you because I decided I should try to work this out myself, and possibly learn something in the process. I have, at least, achieved the latter half of that process. ;D I chose this thread since I assumed it might catch the attention of other users of your template. I had absolutely no intention of adding to your problems nor insinuating that your work was less than great! [tup]

I'll download your new rain3Sources.php script, I've been too busy this morning doing my "Honey Do" chores, but I intended to revert my changes to what was in the original version. Thanks for the extra effort you are putting in, but I'm sorry for causing most of it.

If you want to test the Beta now and do not want to wait until  mid June, send me an email, (under the avatar on the left) and please also mention the URL of your current Leuven-Template (test)  site

Link to Beta demo site: http://weather-template.nl/weather27/index.php?p=10&wp=WC (http://weather-template.nl/weather27/index.php?p=10&wp=WC)
Use the (i) in yellow box at the top to switch region and weather program.
Be aware that this is a extremely low-cost provider so do not expect the response times as fast as usual.

WiKi: in mEnglish (=my not native English without a spell-checker) : http://leuven-template.eu/dokuwiki27/doku.php?id=en:start (http://leuven-template.eu/dokuwiki27/doku.php?id=en:start)

List of some of the changes:
For new users life will be easier as implementation effort is far less. And far less support for new users will be needed.
Current 2.6 users  should wait until release 3.0 as the amount of new pages a.s.o. is relatively small.

But any current user who loves to tinker with PHP  is welcome to try this beta release.
One can easily run the two versions next to each other as the default folder after download is weather27.
and you can adapt, test, try to your liking.
If the new version is OK you can switch by renaming the folders: weather2/ to weather2old/  and weather27/  to weather2/
No other changes necessary.

Officialy needed warning:  :-[ it is still BETA as only a few Dutch speaking persons tested this release.
But very big changes are not expected. And the separation between the template "scripts/lang files/links/ CSS" and user modified  "scripts/lang files/links/ CSS"  will make loading a new version less cumbersome,

I like the added historical temperature data. Nicely done!

Sounds like you've done a lot of consolidating of text files and working on making things easier and quicker for first timers. It should be easier for long time users, also, since there should be less searching for where to make changes or edits. ;)

Wim,

Just a question about the GUI. In the Weather Reports tables, there is a range of colors signifying "intensity" or a range of values from minimum to maximum. That helps in spotting the extremes, of course. When blue colors are used (usually the low end of the scale), the text is usually white. However, when red colors are used (generally at the higher end of the scale), the text is still black. I would suggest than better contrast would result from having the text be white in those instances, as well. [computer] For hexadecimal colors, when any R, G, or B value exceeds a particular value? For HSL, when the Luminosity is less than 40%? Perhaps there is even a 'high contrast convertor' PHP or javascript around? I suspect you are already doing this to convert the text color to white. [cheer]

Version 2.8 is available now. Starting with a template became FAR MORE easier than before.

Especialy interesting for new users or those people who want to run Leuven- and Saratoga-Template  next to ech other.

New users benefit especialy from the on-line question and answer screens. No more typing in settings in a PHP script resdulting in far less typing errors and no more PHP errors. Explanation how it works at:  http://leuven-template.eu/dokuwiki28/doku.php?id=en:check_these_first

Leuven-Template user with a previous release or Saratoga users can make a text-dump of their current settings which is used to already set the answers for a lot of the questions.  Explanation  at: http://leuven-template.eu/dokuwiki28/doku.php?id=en:upgrading

The resulting settings file is much smaller as it only contains the settings for your weather-program and area. That file is much easier to adapt later on also.

There are over 310 users of the Leuven-Template of which only 13 use WeatherCat.

Some newly added pages:
New always up-to-date mesonet script which can be used without maintenance for any regional network
This is mine based on my settings for BNLWN : http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/index.php?p=wsRegionalMap&lang=en
Adding one name to the URL and the Namibian Network is displayed: http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/index.php?p=wsRegionalMap&wp=MH&lang=en&meso=namwn

The Davis console script, still in its first incarnation for 12 different weather-programs:
http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/index.php?p=console&lang=en&wp=MH#data-area  for Meteohub as it is on my own weatherstation
but also usable for WeatherCat: http://www.radiv.com/weather28/index.php?p=console&lang=en#data-area

Hope to see more WeatherCat users around,

Wim

Dear Wim, Blick, and WeatherCat web spinners,

Congratulations on the new upgrade.  Too bad I'm too stubborn and busy or I would consider abandoning my old fashion pages.

I have to admit though I am amazed at how popular creating web versions of the Davis console has become.  Okay, we've all gotten used to that console, but if we could get Davis to come up with a new console with a better user-interface - who would say no?

I'm still poking around and tweaking a lot of bits, the new site is at http://weather.hoke.org/station/ (but I used symlinks to keep the old /weather2/ URL valid).

Now to play around wiht different graphs and see if I can tweak the steelgauges a bit

Thanks again !

Thanks for your nice remarks about the Leuven-Template.
Before you start to tweak the steelgauges and spend to much time with it, here is the first version of the next release gauges. Works also inside release 2.8.

All scripts are checked and made ready for a long list of changes asked by the template users. This provisional version has
1. A clock gauge which should display the web-server time inside the header or on the start-page.
2. A separate clock demo script, if one wants a clock in the side-area.
3. Easier selecting which gauge should be displayed and how much on 1 line. Calculation of the number of rows/number of gauges is done inside the script.

Some of the upcoming changes:
1. Ajax support in the same way as the dashboard, no extra Steelseries file to download. Values on dashboard and gauges always the same.
2. Standalone gauges, for use on the dashboard
3. Multiple gauges for temp and humidity for display of multiple temps (outside, glasshouse1, glasshouse2, water) next to each other
4. A configuration tool to select the framedesign, colors and so on

But the most often asked extension: Your own set of colors to make "flat" gauges which blend in the background . Or have gauges with the same colours (also dynamically) as the rest of the website. "I want on my site GREEN gauges, and is should be my-green.  "

In use at my production site http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/  and at some Dutch-user sites. No problems encountered.

Installation:
1. Make a copy/backup of the weather??/gauges/ folder and wsHeader3.php  script. (a simple rename will do)
2. Unzip attachement and
3. Upload the contents of the gauges2.9-1 folder  to your weather??/ folder replacing the current gauges/ folder and header script.

Tweak this 2.9 version and if you got improvements, let me know.

There will be two or three new gauges folders before roll-out of template release 2.9 in June next year.

Very interesting news about SteelSeries Gauges. Waiting on Marks official release!

Cheers,
Reinhard
Hello Reinhard,
To clarify things:   There are at least 3 sets of Steelseries => gauges available.

They all use the javascript "Steelseries" from Han Solo https://github.com/HanSolo/SteelSeries-Canvas
But mostly  a subset of this large javascript is used, as only parts of the available gauges / lcd / lamp are needed. No thermometer a.s.o.

The first one to create a weather-website page with that was Mark Crossley
Download / documentation o.a. here http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/SteelSeries_Gauges
Added up to 11 gauges, 10 of them using Steelseries.js, one using Rgraph.
This one is the full page as used by most users.

The second one was HENKKA of http://www.nordicweather.net/  download from the menu there.
Added a Snow-gauge and the extra boxes with min/max.
This script is also used on the EWN Weatherstation page: http://euweather.eu/stations.php?lang=en&lat=50.8952&lon=4.69741

The third implementation is used in the Leuven Template. About 80% is the code as the other two.  No windrun graph as only the Steelseries are used. There is the one-full page as with the previous two, but most users either display a small frame with 5 to 6 gauges in the header or a subset of the gauges on the start-page.

All three implementations have their own, not interchangeable, javascript to implement the gauges on a page. Mark: gauges.js , Leuven:  wsgauges.js or  Henkka: jq/eugauges.js

And then there are dozens of others who have modifed the standard scripts in such a way that again a new "product" emerged. But those are not supported outside their own website.

So my ideas how the gauges in the Leuven-Template will evolve will certainly NOT mean that those ideas are 1-1  implemented  in the version you are using now.

One can choose from three different gauge-implementations, as one can  with WXSIM or YrNo forecast scripts. But you can not mix them.

Wim

Wim

Wim

Brilliant as always! up and running on my production site now http://weather.hoke.org/station/index.php?p=gaugePage&lang=en#data-area

I'm heading off to Australia and NZ for a few weeks... may take a look at tweaks while on the road if the weather isnt suitable for photography - otherwise when I get back - but I like this a *lot* and it seems to load faster (will run some testing tools when I get some down time).

Thanks again !

Thanks Wim,

I've finally decided to get a proper website, instead of using the relatively limited free space provided by my ISP, and found your template really easy to install and configure. Many thanks for that.

I've not finished yet, but I'll tweak the text over the next few weeks now almost everything is working properly.

I've got one problem you - or anyone else who has installed the template - will hopefully be able to help me with.

The inc/astronomy.php page (Sun/Moon/Earth > Sun and moon) at http://dunchurchweather.co.uk/weather28/index.php?p=astronomy&lang=en#data-area shows the rise and set times as 1am, and the log throws up lots of errors as follows:

I've installed the updated inc/astronomy.php file from http://support.leuven-template.eu/problems28.php?lang=en but suspect I've entered something incorrectly in the settings file that may be causing the problem. Might that be the case?

The following extract sets the location and timezone:

Code: [Select]
# The location of your weatherstation on the globe
$SITE["latitude"]       = "52.342574";          # 30 = 70
$SITE["longitude"]      = "-1.290024";          # -30 = 40
#
# The timezone you are in and the language you use
$SITE["tz"]             = "Europe/London";
$SITE["lang"]           = "en";                 # en = English  |  nl = Dutch  |  fr = French  |  de = German

Does that look OK? I'm a little confused by the "30 = 70" and "-30 = 40" comments - have I entered the latitude and longitude correctly?

Is there anything else I need to give?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I am away from my computer, using an iPad. So helping you will be for tomorrow morning.

The settings are correct, the comments are the allowable range. Example 30 till 70

There are sometimes problems with retrieving the moon data, which results in zero time and invalid indexes.

I will check it first thing in the morning,

The USNO website from which the "moon" data is loaded seems to be incompatible in talking to your webserver/hosting company.
There is no DNS-error => that is good
No IP blockade => that is good
But an error during exchanging information:
Code: [Select]
<!-- module astronomy.php (374) last error  = Recv failure: Connection reset by peer-->
I attach a test program to further test this on your server.
1. Unzip attachement
2. Place the test_usno.php script on your webserver in the root
3. Test  in your browser  dunchurchweather.co.uk/test_usno.php

The script contains a correct URL to retrieve the USNO information.

First it tries the standard PHP function CURL. That is the one which fails at your server now.
It then uses the file_get-contents function.

If the second one works, I can adapt the script. If that fails also you should contact your provider as they are the only ones to correct their server scripts which handles the CURL function.

This problem is occurring with other sites/scripts/template also, as most scripts loading information form external sources are moving away from low-level calls and file-get-contents type instructions towards CURL.

Please post a message when you installed the script, so I can check,

Wim

Many thanks Wim. It's installed.

It's interesting that you mention the hosting company's scripts. I am having a discussion with them at the moment about AWEKAS not able to access the file at http://dunchurchweather.co.uk/awekas_wl.html that should drive http://www.awekas.at/en/instrument.php?id=12700 but which currently doesn't. They've whitelisted AWEKAS, but the connection still fails, so I'm updating the file in Dropbox for now and hoping the hosting company can sort it out.

Might all this be connected?

They're very responsive and keen to help, so if they need to make a change, I'm hopeful they will do that.

You should indeed
1. contact your provider,
2.mention the problem
3. give them the link http://dunchurchweather.co.uk/test_usno.php
4. explain how to check the source http://dunchurchweather.co.uk/test_usno.php?sce=view

and ask them to solve the CURL problem.
Nothing we can do at the moment.

The USNO data is not only needed for the Astronomy page, but also for the startpage as Weathercat does not supply moondata.

===

It is not a blocking or dns problem, but a problem in the scripts handling the CURL request.
Another provider had to change the PERL scripts handling their extensions to it.
But all this is inside the code they are responsible for and we can not change anything about it.

There is a small change that another PHP version could help, but I do not know if you yourself can switch to another PHP version.
Success, Wim

Thanks Wim,

They say:

Quote
Further to a few tests this side, can you please ask them to confirm what changes need to be made to the Perl script / handler?

Testing this side, the CURL function works, this is invoked and the response we receive is Recv failure: Connection reset by peer

This indicates that the traffic is accepted initially then dropped by them.

Do you know what the other provider you mention had to do? Or do you have any other information I could refer them to?

. . . shortened . . .
This indicates that the traffic is accepted initially then dropped by them.
The dropping of communication occurs because of a response from your webserver. That is all I know.

That it works correctly at other places is shown by the hundreds of Leuven/Saratoga/other websites using CURL and or file_get_contents to access USNO.
Your test-script is also running at: http://wiri.be/test_usno.php without any problem

Quote

I have no idea as i do not speak PERL, but this message/problem was discussed on multiple fora. I will scan the fora later today and try to find a clue and post it.

Many thanks once again for your help with this, Wim.

It's taken a little while to resolve because of the Christmas and New Year break, but my hosting provider has now moved my site to a different server with finer-grained, bespoke, settings and your test script at http://www.dunchurchweather.co.uk/test_usno.php now works.  :)

It's not the end of the story and I'll need to tinker further when I get a bit more time as the sun and moon times at the top of http://www.dunchurchweather.co.uk/weather/index.php?p=astronomy&lang=en#data-area are still wrong. However as far as I can see the other oddities have been cured. I have got an incompletely-configured test installation of the Saratoga template (which I used to see which one I prefer), and that does now find the times as http://dunchurchweather.co.uk/Saratoga/wxastronomy.php shows.

So I think I've still done something wrong in the Leuven template, and will investigate further when I've time.

I've also had lots of people telling me how impressed they are with the site - which is entirely down to your template. So thanks for that too!  ;D

Can you please make a partly screenshot of the errors on a page?
When I check your startpage http://www.dunchurchweather.co.uk/weather/  => Moon: moonrise  9:15 am   moonset  7:39 pm
Same for the astronomy page: http://www.dunchurchweather.co.uk/weather/index.php?p=astronomy  Moonrise: 9:15 am  Moonset: 7:39 pm
Those times are the same as Moonrise: 09:15 (12/01/2016)  Moonset: 19:39 (12/01/2016) at the Saratoga page.

If you run into problems or need assistance, please make an extra FTP account for your weather/ folder so I can check more in detail.

IMPORTANT:  Most imported data is cached: Forecasts until a new forecast is available but at least 60 minutes, data from your uploads until a new upload is available, almanac data until there is a new day and so on.

So if you change a script or an important setting,  the output will not change directly. You can always clear the cache folder and all data will be reloaded.

Success, Wim

I have recently changed weather station from LaCrosse WS-2350 to Davis Vantage Vue. My weather site www.uranusweather.com with the Leuven-Template, is still running. But I have discovered a problem with the steel series gauges. On my weather site, if you click on livedata and then steelseries you will see that the arrows on all the gauges are pointing on zero. And a message is saying - Text file download corrupted! Retrying...

I need some help to fix that...   [tup]

So I can not check your site. Change of whether station should not change anything normally ad the weatherprogram is the same, so the upload files should be still correct.

The version used is a relative old one, this template version is an old adapted version of Mark Crosleys script 1.5.
As I have no access on my iPad to the html of the page I can not check what is wrong with the realtime file, and I do not know by head the name of the 2.4c realtime file either.

Mr Grunwald developed the Steelseries java scripts. Mark Crosley created the first html page for Cumulus and other weatherprograms.

What I consider to do, is to upgrade both the WC version and the template version, and hopefully that will fix the problem and some other minor problems I have. I have had the same versions for almost 3 years now, so maybe it's smart to do a "clean up".

If you want to upgrade to the most recent version, I can do that for you for the webserver part. Sent me a (temporary)  ftp userid and password.

You should instruct WeatherCat to also upload the two NEW files.  Check the WiKi http://leuven-template.eu/dokuwiki28/doku.php?id=en:uploadwc
Please upload them to the same location as you are uploading all 2.4c files: weather2/uploadWC/ in all WiKi examples you should read weather2/ for weather28/.

While you are waiting, you might want to post your question in the <Steel Gauges (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=576.0)> threads where the dev for those might have a better chance of seeing it. That may be where the warning is coming from rather than the Leuven-Template. Apparently the original developer of those gauges is Mr. Gerrit Grunwald? ;)

Wim

What I consider to do, is to upgrade both the WC version and the template version, and hopefully that will fix the problem and some other minor problems I have. I have had the same versions for almost 3 years now, so maybe it's smart to do a "clean up".

This version 2.4c uses a php script to load the data and convert the , to . to not conflict with the json format
http://www.uranusweather.com/weather2/gauges/realtimeWC.php
Code: [Select]
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /customers/a/6/7/uranusweather.com/httpd.www/weather2/wsSettingsWeather.php:2) in /customers/a/6/7/uranusweather.com/httpd.www/weather2/gauges/realtimeWC.php on line 235 {"date":"2016-08-28 15:38:00","temp":"13.7","tempTL":"8.3","tempTH":"14.6","intemp":"24.2","dew":"11.4","dewpointTL":"6.8","dewpointTH":"11.6","apptemp":"14.3","apptempTL":"8","apptempTH":"15.2","wchill":"13.7","wchillTL":"8.3","heatindex":"13.7","heatindexTH":"16.5","humidex":"13.7","wlatest":"0","wspeed":"0","wgust":"0","wgustTM":"3.6","bearing":"141","avgbearing":"Syntax Error","press":"1016.5","pressTL":"1016.5","pressTH":"1018.7","pressL":"956.4","pressH":"1043.5","rfall":"0","rrate":"0","rrateTM":"0","hum":"86","humTL":"76","humTH":"92","inhum":"50","SensorContactLost":"0","forecast":"  increasing clouds with little temperature change  precipitation possible within 24 to 48 hours","tempunit":"C","windunit":"km\/h","pressunit":"hPa","rainunit":"mm","temptrend":"-0.3","TtempTL":"05:08","TtempTH":"14:51","TdewpointTL":"04:47","TdewpointTH":"15:34","TapptempTL":"05:00","TapptempTH":"14:00","TwchillTL":"05:08","TheatindexTH":"14:51","TrrateTM":"-","ThourlyrainTH":"-","LastRained":"-","hourlyrainTH":"0","ThumTL":"00:00","ThumTH":"06:33","TpressTL":"15:22","TpressTH":"01:21","presstrendval":"-0.5","Tbeaufort":"-","TwgustTM":"15:20","windTM":"54","bearingTM":"-","timeUTC":"2016,8,28,13,38,18","BearingRangeFrom10":"0","BearingRangeTo10":"359","UV":"0,0","SolarRad":"0","CurrentSolarMax":"-","SolarTM":"0,0","version":"WeatherCat","build":"V2.31, Build 93","ver":"9"}There is an error message just before the json output.
So a modification has taking place in wsSettingsWeather.php at line 2 which outputs either a space or the "bom" characters.

Thanks a lot! I removed an empty line before the <?php in the wsSettingsWeather.php and that solved the problem. Yesss!

Yes, I consider to upgrade to the latest version. And many thanks for wanting to help me. I am certainly not a computer expert. But, like a kid, I would like to try myself first. I have read through the WiKi last weekend and I am mentally prepared to give it a try. I have uploaded the template and have started to customize the template in the Configure section of the menu, everything in a test version in folder /weather28... while the current template version 2.4 still is working. Not finished yet but working on it. My way to learn and manage to do things myself, he-he. I really appreciate that you want to help me, so I rather contact you if I should meet some problems.  [bounce]

Today I finally have upgraded to the new version and everything is uploaded to the site www.uranusweather.com. The front or main page and all other pages are, as far as I can see, just perfect, the way I wanted. The realtime values are ok. Only a couple of minor problems:

1. The temperature high and lows are set to 0,0 degrees
2. The rain values are set to 0,0 mm. That is not correct for the Season total
3. The date on Last updated is set to 01-01-1970 01:00.

See the attached file which is a picture of my custom web additional files for uploading. The first four are the tag files from the old version. The last four are the tag files from the new version.

How can I make this work? Is there something I have forgot to do?

The weather-data displayed on the pages has two sources:
The realtime file => seems OK => http://www.uranusweather.com/weather2/uploadWC/realtime.wc.txt
The 5 minute data, including high-lows => not OK => http://www.uranusweather.com/weather2/index.php?tags&high&p=0000&pw=#data-area

That file seems to have "non-standard" line breaks so it is by some scripts considered to be one long line.
The same file on the demo site http://weather-template.nl/weather28/?tags&high&p=0000&pw=&wp=WC#data-area  har "normal' line-breaks.

Can you make a zip of the uploaded file weather2/uploadWC/tags.wc.txt  and sent it  to me?  wvdkuil ( at ) gmail.com
I can test to see what character your WeatherCat is using for a line break.

ALSO: There seems to be some extra characters inserted at the beginning of the file
All template files are in UTF-8  and should only be read or altered with a decent program-editor.
So maybe you used a text-editor when copying to your weathercat folder.  Some non-program editors insert special characters in UTF-8 files.
Attached a fresh zip of the tags file for WeatherCat.  Unzip and move to your WeratherCat tagFiles folder.

Please do no uploaded the other two.

TextWrangler is a great editor, free and preserves the UTF-8 format.

I have sent you the tag-file on email. Right after that, I downloaded your fresh tag-file and put it into the tag file folder.  [woohoo] And now everything works fine. I have, like you said, used a text-editor to copy the file to my weathecat folder. Thank you very much for good help - help that really works !

Had a problem on my site this week end with the Forecast graphic/chart. This may have been mentioned here, and I missed it.

Being the lazy type, I fired off an email to the Templates dev asking for help. As usual, his explanation was accurate and swift! :) I changed a single letter in a single script and all is fine ... at present. However, he included a link that further describes the causes, our trusty 'weather.gov' web site, and more changes that coming in March 2017.

I quote from his email (without prior permission) for all to be aware of the changes:
Quote
This error is caused by a change from http  to https
Discussed a.o. at http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=31449.msg314482#msg314482 (http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=31449.msg314482#msg314482)
As there are numerous changes ahead around March 7, the easiest way to do is find the line to change.

Only change this line as other lines with http://  should not be changed NOW, they do not work with https:// YET.[emphasis added]

Thanks, again, Mr. Wim van der Kuil. [cheer]

Leuven Template support for NOAA/NWS/USA scripts

ATTENTION: Leuven-Template && WeatherCat users

Still waiting for the NOAA final changes of the new point-click forecast.  Cut-over date is now planned for April 24, 2017.

All adapted forecast scripts can be downloaded at the Leuven-Template support site: http://support.leuven-template.eu/

Stand-alone / Saratoga-template versions available at: http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/northam/noaafct/demo.php?plain&lang=en

FIRST  backup / copy or zip  your current noaafct/ folder before you start testing the new version.

===  ALSO

No "Current conditions" or an icon with a "question mark" on your start-page?
Caused by a previous NOAA/NWS change,  the METAR has to be loaded differently.
Read and print this pdf http://leuven-template.eu/noaa.pdf about what you have to change

Since the NOAA changes, at least in their Forecast output broke that part of my site this morning, I took most of the day to switch between supervising a new roof, taking a friend to a Doctors appointment and working my way through the new stand-alone NOAA Forecast scripts from Mr. Van der Kuil. His directions were even better than last time!

Amazingly, even after making the styling changes from the old files, the first refresh with the new files worked just fine! Mye tieping skillz are notoriously bad, slow and erer prone! I attribute my success purely to his meticulous attention to the details involved and his excellent instructions! Thanks again Wim! [cheer]

Hopefully, the roof will be completed tomorrow and the siding replaced soon thereafter and I can re-install the anemometer within 24 hours! ThU32:-)

Does Leuven Template work in php 7/7.1?
I have version 2.8j

Does Leuven Template work in php 7/7.1?
I have version 2.8j
When I click on the globe under your avatar I arrive this site: http://kauttua.net/
That is not  not a  Leuven-template but a Saratoga one.
===
If you are using the Leuven-Template also, there is no problem using PHP 7.1
There will be some notices when debug is on as type checking is far more formal.
But almost all Leuven scripts will work as expected.

I plan to replace my site with Leuven template and upgrade php to 7.1.
Just want to be sure that I can upgrade.
Thx Wim for answering!   ThU32:-)

Sadly the development of the Leuven-Template has ended.
To much external changes and shortage of time forced me to end the download of the template to new users.

The latest Leuven-Template updates at https://support.leuven-template.eu/problems28.php?lang=en

Current users of any of my scripts / templates can find all links needed for support at:  https://support.leuven-template.eu/

Wim,

Thank you for all that you've done to create and support the Leuven-Template over the years. I initially looked at using it, but for some now forgotten reason didn't. But I know that a lot of WeatherCat users have created beautiful web pages using your template, and all of us appreciate your continued help over the years.

Good luck to you in whatever you tackle next,
Steve

Thanks for all the time and energy Wim. You not only gave great support to WeatherCat users, but you also chimed in to help a lot of us out on issues not related to your template.
