I seem to be sorted now, I think the problem was an incomplete update of the Xcode command line tools (I'm a developer)

Thanks for the prompt reply Edouard, I think it has something to do with emails. I see that others have had similar problems.
This time of year WeatherCAT generates lots of annual weather records and it appears that when it tries to send an email it crashes.
I turned off all emails in WeatherCAT and have not had a crash for the past 12 hours.
This started a few days ago so I can only think that something has changed in my email setup so I will investigate this.
WeatherCAT should really handle a problem like this more gracefully.

Good idea, Steve!

Drier than average (1.98 in versus an average total of 3.10)
Windier than average (a wind run of 3,283 miles versus an average of 3,093)

2023 was...
Warmer than average* (39.47°F versus an average* of 38.77)
Wetter than average* (38.41 in versus an average* total of 23.37)
Windier than average* (a wind run of 36,411 miles versus an average* of 32,625)

Dear kenkelso and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

For the last week I have been experiencing several WeatherCAT crashes every hour. I have deleted and replaced the .plist file from a backup (as per instruction on this site) and also re-installed WeatherCAT to no avail. The crash report is attached.

I took a look at the crash report, but I'm no expert and I didn't see anything in it that might explain the problem.  I see that you are running macOS Ventura.  Can you tell us more about your installation?  Also, did you make any changes before these crashes started?

Please give us any additional information that might help us diagnose your problem.

Dear WeatherCat observers of the moods of the sky,

Thus far,  El Niño hasn't caused the sort of deluges that people were fearing for California.  As a result, I continue to not see the sort of colorful sunrises that are usually more common at this time of year.  However, this morning was an exception:

More rain is expected, but, according to my difference from average rainfall synthetic channel, we are below average for this point in January.

You really do live in a desert! [sweat2]

[rolleyes2] Did you edit your recent post while I was writing you a snarky PM?! cmu:-)

Dear Steve, X-Air, Jos, and WeatherCat climate watchers,

This afternoon I have a bit more time and so can compile the same numbers for my station that Steve suggested:

2023 was...
Warmer than average* (58.43° F versus an average* of 57.93° F)
Wetter than average* (29.48" in versus an average* total of 23.67")
Windier than average* (a wind run of 7,925 miles versus an average* of 4,041 miles)

* Average of data from approximately 2010 through 2023.

The average temperature difficult is most certainly within 1-standard deviation, so it was basically unchanged.  However, both the rainfall and wind run are dramatically larger.

Thanks Steve for suggesting this.  I'm definitely curious to see what other WeatherCatters can show us along these lines.

December was...

Wetter than average (168.80 mm versus an average total of 66.83)
Windier than average (a wind run of 3.759 km, versus an average of 2.115)

2023 was...
Warmer than average (11.1°C versus an average of 10.3)
Wetter than average (1244.2 mm versus an average total of 826)

2023 was - also according to our national weather service (KNMI) - the wettest year on record in the Netherlands (since official measurements started in 1901).
