A nice little storm......NOT
« on: June 29, 2012, 11:12:06 PM »
Well, it's been nearly a month since it last rained in Indianapolis.  Yesterday the temperatures topped out at 107 on one of my instruments.  Today I watched a little better, the temp topped out at 105?F and the heat index topped 118?F  About 5pm we finally had a storm go through, briefly.  Dropped the temperature from 105 to 70 in about 45 minutes.  We liked that.  There was a lot of wind too, took out a lot of our trees.  And then there was the rain, rather the lack of rain.  We really needed the rain, but only got about .05" here and elsewhere.  So it's back to the heat [sweat2] again.

Howdy Doc and WeatherCat drought watchers . . . .  [sun2]

Well, it's been nearly a month since it last rained in Indianapolis.
. . . .
We really needed the rain, but only got about .05" here and elsewhere.  So it's back to the heat [sweat2] again.

We've been having a much-welcome period of cooler weather for the past week or so, but of course the closest thing to rain around here is a bit of moisture from the evening and morning fog.

I've been starting to hear the drought grumbles from the rest of the country.  The very mild weather of last winter is giving way to another kind of "mild" that definitely won't be welcome in places that need rain for crops and water supplies.

Definitely an "interesting" time to be monitoring the weather . . . . hope it doesn't reach the point of hurtin' too much!!  [banghead]

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

P.S. Here we are approaching another one of those battles of those "lessor known" forecast models associated with holiday periods (see: Forecast "models" around holidays.  The desperate weather question being: Will the fog come in and ruin the 4th of July fireworks?  Until now, the Chamber of Commerce forecast model has been holding its ground but . . . . now they are talking about a trough coming through "about midweek" . . . .  Troughs always intensify the fog and . . . . July 4th is Wednesday!  [biggrin]

It's talk like this that actually makes earthquakes seem . . . . appealing!!

If this keeps up, I might have to take really drastic steps and move to . . . . Scotland!!  [rain2]  [lol]

In northern Ohio, we didn't get the wind, only reaching 24 MPH. But we didn't get the rain, either. Only .02". Our temps have been a few degrees cooler than yours, too, with several days in the mid 90s and heat index the past couple in the 100-108 range. Pretty unusual for us. With the dew point in the mid-high 70s and the humidity in the 80s, it is miserable! Those of you out west may be used to these temps, but if you've never experienced them with high humidity, it is rough.

Careful for what you wish for.

Water use restrictions (hosepipe bans)  were put in place earlier this year, water companies still have not lifted them for some parts of England.

It's been the same in other parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland recently....
