Post by: Randall75 on January 01, 2017, 09:48:49 PM
Hi Weathercatters
Today on my Macbook the WC Client is reading off on the the high marks for today are way out of range is anyone else see this but me?
All reading on the main WeatherCat are all correct just the Client is reading wrong.

cheers

Randall:

I am seeing the same thing on both external and internal temperatures. The client shows internal maximum to be 146.5. If true, that would mean the house is on fire.

The min/max problem also occurs with the iOS clients. The cause is probably in the WeatherCat desktop software. It may clear itself up when the day changes. Major date changeovers can be like that. January 2 may bring correct min/max values. I am curious see what happens after midnight.

Not having a monitor on my Mac mini, I seldom view anything on it's 'screen'. The posts about out-of-range internal temps encouraged me to look at this "client".

The first window I displayed was entitled "Weather Station Gauges". I then looked in The Manual and see there is a "Client" in the Companion Applications folder. I had already closed the "Station Gauges" window, but the "WeatherCatClient.app" looked exactly like the "Weather Station Gauges" window. But never being one who likes to 'assume', I tried to open the "Weather Station Gauges" thing, again. So, where is that thing?! I would have sworn I just used the Windows menu in WC! But there's nothing like that in there (or anywhere else) now! Nevermind! I found it in the WC->Tools->Gauges item.

Now to my real reason for posting; does the high temp error show on both these windows/"thermometer" style gauges? I'm also wondering if the "leap second" has been taken into account... [banghead]

I haven't upgraded WC yet, and I can't remember the last time I ran the WC Client app. However, the it is showing all the red, high limits/values for every 'bar' graph at ~120 to ~128?F on the first four temperature gauges and ~160+ on the external Temp gauge. Again, this is on WC v2.40, not the last update and OS X 10.11.6.

The "Weather Station Gauges" window looks to be accurate.

BTW, Blick, I think a house ablaze would be considerably above 146.5?F or even 146.5?C! I would not recommend staying to determine what that temperature might actually be, however. I suspect your local fire fighters could give you a reasonable average... be sure and take them some donuts when you visit them, of course.  ThU32:-)

Is there an advantage to using the "WC Client.app" over the "Weather Station Gauges" window, at least on the machine running WC? I seldom have a browser not running (at home or on a mobile device), so I can always see data at my site, anyway. Just wondering...

The client is for looking at WeatherCat data on a machine or device other than the one on which you run WeatherCat.

Well, I obviously agree, but is there an advantage of using that app as opposed to the data we already have in multiple combinations and permutations, not to mention "templates", on our own web site? That "web site" detail may be the answer; there are lots of WC users who do not have a web site.

I did ask what advantage there might be on the machine running WC.

I think there are options for color choices in the app that probably aren't available in the built-in window version. Not a biggy for me, probably nice for those unable to have a site but do have a LAN.

I understood the question you asked, but hoped you would be satisfied with the question you should have asked.  :)

There is no reason to run client on same machine as WC.

Main advantage to running iOS client on your iPhone or iPad is that it provides current readings for Sensor and Comms Errors so you can easily tell if something has gone haywire when you are not around your main machine.

I sometimes intentionally don't ask questions the way I "should". It is simply my way of "encouraging" some to exercise their brains. Of course, many feel that is just my ineptitude with the English language!  cmu:-) [rolleyes2]

Running WC 3.02, Mac mini using OS X 10.13.6 (need to update my sig...)
I now have another question concerning the "Weather Station Gauges" window. It now seems I cannot close it. Previously, I used File->Close (command-W). That is not working since the window shows as "inactive", no colored 'gum-drop' buttons, even if the window is clicked on. The Minimize and Close buttons do show colors when hovering the mouse over them, but they are disabled. Therefore, with no other WC windows open, the Close item is disabled.

It's a minor thing, I just like to have only windows needed open in any app. Since I'm running the Mac mini without a monitor, no one can see the gauges.

Thanks!
Title: Time to relaunch WeatherCat? (Re: WeatherCat Client 1/1/2017 readings)

Dear X-Air and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Running WC 3.02, Mac mini using OS X 10.13.6 (need to update my sig...)

. . . . .

I just double-checked and I can close the standard gauge window and reopen it using the item in the Tools menu.  I suspect that your WeatherCat is in some sort of weird state that is causing this anomaly.  The simplest thing to do is just quit and relaunch WeatherCat.  If you are sufficiently curious, you could first take a sample of WeatherCat in its current state and send that to Stu for his perusal.   The instructions on taking a sample are still correct as noted on this posting:

Thanks! I think I remember using the Tools menu a couple of weeks ago! DUH!! Just got back from a river cruise down the Danube. Confusing languages, two circadian rthym busting flights... that?s my excuse for my (recent) memory lapses. Now, what is the question? [rolleyes2] [banghead] [blush]

Actually, I used the Tools menu to 'select' Gauges. That made the Weather Station Gauges window truly active. I could then use the red candy button or the File->Close menu. The key is that if the candy buttons are not enabled (showing their colors), the window is not in the WC 'list-of-open-windows'. Clicking the window is not enough to make it active/front-most, but the Tools->Gauges menu does it. ThU5:-) I think The Dev is tricking the System to open that window on start up! [lol]
