Widescreen webcam? WC 3.0.0
« on: March 30, 2018, 07:45:32 PM »
So today I plugged in a new webcam (Logtech C615) and after a bit of noodling around to fix the paths got it up and running like a dream. http://rg-d.com/weather for the record.

*Then* I saw that WC had been updated?Twitter functionality is back, yay!?so paid my 20 quid, downloaded and installed. All seemed fine, except that the movies are now squished into 4:3 and looking a bit... suboptimal. There doesn't seem to be an option to force it back into widescreen; none of the capture options are 16:9. In 2.4.4 it was the same, but it spat out a trimmed version of the widescreen input so it looked fine.

I must be missing something simple but can't find it anywhere. I should have a movie saved where you can see the switch if it helps.

Any ideas?

tia,

Richard

Haven't upgraded to WC3 yet, been working on several totally different problem. But I also replaced my Sharx 3905 with the new version, SCNC 3924. It has many better qualities but I also ran into the 16:9 output with what comes with WC (4:3?). I haven't enabled the video on my web site yet, making sure the camera is working via WiFi instead of the original PoE method.

If I understand your post above, WC clips the width of the 16:9 format when building the video so that one gets the best quality available? I'm going to change its output back to 1920 x 1080 and see how that goes...

Thanks for your comment, Storm. As far as I can tell, WC 2.4.4 clipped for the best quality, but WC3.0.0 squishes from 16:9 to 4:3.

Granted, I'm still using WC 2.4.4 and macOS 12.6, but after changing my cameras output back to 1920 x 1080, I'm now getting much sharper video from WC. I have Movie Size: 1280 * 1024, but I can't see any difference in the "live" video and the WC version. YMMV, of course.

I don't think that size is  4:3 or 16:9. Perhaps WC is using that as a "flag" to simply keep the input dimensions no matter what they are? [banghead] At any rate, I'm happy and will probably put my video back on my site tomorrow. Need to do one more 24 hour check on the Daemons cleaning up the vids over night. One great change in WC 3 is the actual stopping of video creation after Sundown (I think).

Xair', (not 'storm'. Sheesh. I shouldn't post?or hack PHP?at midnight), yes, I can confirm no movies were created in the hours of darkness. (Actually, camera switched back on exactly an hour before local sunrise)

And this morning, my videos are back to widescreen. Hm.
