Bush League Landing
« on: July 07, 2016, 06:36:22 AM »
This very short video was shared with me on FaceBook. It seems to originate on FB, as well. Sharing the link here with all of you pilots, because you absolutely know how difficult this is, so I hope it works.

The bush pilot lands in a buffeting headwind at near stall speed without rolling the ground, by feathering the prop and, at the right time to affect a zero altitude stall, lowers the flaps. Have I got that right?

Aeronaves.

I think your description is pretty accurate. Contact Sears for your license!  [cheer]

I thought maybe this was one of the annual short takeoff and landing contests in AK. There are lots of YouTube vids. Highly modified airframes, engines, props, tires, etc. Not a few bold pilots. The advantages are obvious when you need to get into the very small "runways" in that rather mountainous state. The only 'state-wide' transportation'system' up there is the air, which, fortunately covers 99.999% of the state! ;)

I've tried that landing method in the 747.

Doesn't work.

[rolleyes2] The 47's tires are too small. Note the ratio of tire size to fuselage size in that vid. Just having more tires doesn't mean they have the same effect. Simple aeronautics. Your youth and lack of experience is showing! [banghead]

Yeah, that's the problem with those go/no go pushers. No seat of your pants adjustment.
