Title: WeatherBug for Chrome
Post by: parkernathan on May 22, 2014, 01:50:27 AM
As a Mac user, I often get asked if there's a "full" desktop version of WeatherBug for Mac (besides our Alert app that chirps and links to WeatherBug.com).
I've found a solution that's working extremely well on my Mac, plus in addition to WeatherBug 10 for Windows, this solution also runs on Windows, and possibly even Linux too (I haven't confirmed it yet on Linux, but I may have my colleague test it and update this note to confirm it).

The solution is our new WeatherBug App for Chrome (the Google Chrome Browser). While technically a "web app" that runs using Chrome as the under-the-hood technology, our latest version runs standalone, outside of Chrome. On my Mac, it places an app icon that can be easily launched, and it looks and feels just like a standalone app.

It's pretty full featured with live weather data, cams, maps, etc. It still needs a few additional features such as Spark, plus it doesn't support Backyard Stations yet (but will be supporting CWOP soon). All in all though, it's an excellent app that, especially for our Mac users needing a more "full" desktop experience, should find it refreshing.

You can learn more about it here, and best of all, it's free:

We'll be working to deliver more features to the Chrome app coming up, plus we still need to eventually look into bringing WeatherBug 10 to the Mac, but in the meantime, Mac users should enjoy this, as well as Windows users wanting another way to access WeatherBug should find it fun to use as well.

Important Note: One thing it doesn't do is run in the background and chirp during severe weather. If you want this feature, you'll want to install WeatherBug Alert for Mac or WeatherBug 10 on Windows. Good news is the Chrome app can run concurrently with Alert for Mac and WeatherBug 10 on Windows just fine.

Enjoy!
