Like all months since April, October was dryer and warmer than normal in the Netherlands (despite a wet 30 October with 23.6mm). The 'precipitation-shortage' for 2018 has increased to roughly 250mm (10 inches), even 300mm in some parts of the country.
It has also been very dry in Germany. Months of drought have left water levels on the Rhine river at a record low, exposing World War II bombs and forcing ship operators to halt services to prevent vessels from running aground.
On the other side of the scale, Italy has been hit by extremely bad weather. Venice flooded (more than usual
) and huge amounts of rain - 500mm within a few days -- and snow fell in the Alps (100cm on the Stelvio pass, 2757m altitude).
Weather is never dull.
