Issue with Uploading Images to Wunderground server
« on: February 26, 2016, 02:42:28 AM »
I am continuing to have issues uploading webcam images to Wunderground. After a few hours of successful uploads, I start seeing these errors in my WeatherCat log (see below). My user name and password have not changed and the images are in both the weathercatmedia/pictures folder and on my local ftp server where the camera sends its images. Any thoughts on this??

Has this situation corrected itself? Seems like WU has lots of random problems, especially with images.

Dear ColdnFrosty, X-Air, and WeatherCat data submission junkies, .

I am continuing to have issues uploading webcam images to Wunderground.

I haven't had a long string of problems with the webcam images, but periodically a image isn't uploaded and there is an error.  I agree with X-Air, odds are this is a server issues on the their end.  Since they now have a new infusion of cash, they are probably upgrading their servers which was long overdue.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

I would love some information on how WC users use IP camera's AND upload image to Wunderground. I use 2 Panasonic IP camera's BB-HCM735's Set up is not particular user friendly certainly on a Mac but the camera's work well. I upload directly from the camera's build in server to Wunderground but have never succeeded in getting WC to display an image. So occasionally although rare the WU service will hang I don't use WC to collect the image and upload to WU

Per my profile, I use EvoCam 5.0 to process multiple camera streams. Every five minutes, I drop a randomized still from one of the streams into a folder (replaces the previous still) and let WeatherCat upload the image to WU.

I use a Sharx wireless IP camera. It streams video to an IP address on my internal network. Tech support at Sharx told me the URL to use from which WeatherCat can grab a still frame every five minutes. In WC Preferences for Webcam, I use the File from URL setting to enter the URL. My URL is http://10.0.1.40/live/0/jpeg.jpg. You should be able to find the URL to which your Panasonic is streaming.

I'm no expert at camera's and WU. Heck, I've never been able to even get Evocam working! [blush] My questions are (to hopefully help the experts):
What kind of image are you sending to WU?
Is it a 'streaming' video, a single image (.jpeg, .gif, etc.) every few minutes or something else.
If it is a video, what format (.mov, .mp4, .ogg, etc.)?
Finally, what method did you use in the WU settings? I think only options are FTP and URL. Which are you using?

The only thing I have been able to use successfully is a .jpeg image that WC stores for building the time-lapse video. It then uploads a reduced size (640px wide) image to my web space. WU has the url and grabs the image from there. I've never been able to get a video to WU, not even sure they can use/accept a QuickTime (.mov) file, anyway.
