A video showing damage to Galveston caused by the severe Hurricane Ike in 2007.

This storm caused the NWS to rethink the hurricane Category system.  Ike had a Cat 2 wind field but a Cat 4 storm surge (about 18 feet).

The extraordinary storm surge was caused by the extreme size of Ike's wind field which piled up the Gulf waters far beyond expectations.

Thanks for sharing Rex. Ike hit our home in Houston but we got off pretty easy compared to what happened in Galveston.
