If my lat/lon coordinates are 40.79 ?N, 73.63 ?W, how do I enter them into WeatherCat preferences.

Not at my computer right now but there is a post here listing several sites that can give you the Lat/Long in the format you'll need for WC and many other places. I think Google maps is one place that provides decimal values. Easiest way would be to use the (Advanced) Search function here (it's up in the nag menu for the forums, between Help and Profile). ;)

I have the decimal values but the latitude won't let me enter it.

Do you have all three values; degrees, minutes, and hundreths? The numbers you posted are only degrees and minutes (I think). WC wants a more detailed/exact location. I believe the specification is in The Manual somewhere. Actually, it's right in the text on the Location/Colors tab, see the text in the top of the Station Details area. [banghead] :) Details, details, ... [rolleyes2]

So I have to convert the long decimal value to the 3 box format?

Affirmative. See pages 23-24 of The Manual. You'll need your location in Degrees, Minutes and Seconds. Many sites that provide the decimal values can convert that to the three values. Let me know if you have difficulties with that.

Once you have the three value format, you'll have to mathematically convert the Seconds to Hundredths (of a minute). Simple formula in on page 23, I think.

JG:

You convert latitude/ longitude to DMS (degrees minutes seconds) and then convert the seconds to hundredths of a second (this is called LORAN). If my math is correct, which is not a given, you should end up with the following:

40?47'40 N
73?37'80 W

If your lat/long numbers had a few more decimal places, the conversion to LORAN would be a little more accurate, but this should get you going in the WeatehrCat preferences.

Dear jg, X-Air, Blick, and WeatherCat conversion experts,

If anybody else needs to convert Latitude and Longitude from decimal to degrees, minutes, and seconds there is a website that will do it for you:

http://www.latlong.net/degrees-minutes-seconds-to-decimal-degrees

You can use this website to get the Latitude and Longitude from a particular address using Google maps.  Certainly a useful resource for someone getting their weather station setup.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]
