Lost Communications with WeatherUnderground
« on: March 02, 2017, 09:21:06 PM »
I have a Davis Vantage Pro2 with Mac running 10.12.2 and WC 2.4.1.
I lost communications with WU about 2 months ago.
Since then I have updated WC and OS thinking that would help but it didn't.
Still can't get it to work.
I am not an expert on computers or weather.
I would appreciate any suggestions to get me back online with WU.
Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the WeatherCat forum and thanks for your first post.

A place to start is in WeatherCat Preferences | On-line | Wunderground PWS. This will tell you if you are even running WeatherCat's WU interface. What does it say in the Current Status window? Is it running, does it need to be started. Is it sending reports?

If all looks well there, look in the WeatherCat log and search for Wunderground messages? This will tell us if the FTP to WU is working or not.

Report back.

Good hunting.

Reset password? (Re: Lost Communications with WeatherUnderground)

Dear elkaybe, Blick, and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Let me also welcome you to the WeatherCat forum!

I have a Davis Vantage Pro2 with Mac running 10.12.2 and WC 2.4.1.
I lost communications with WU about 2 months ago.
Since then I have updated WC and OS thinking that would help but it didn't.
. . . .

It occurs to me that the time you mention was a period when Weather Underground was updating their databases, and at the time, they changed the criteria for passwords.  Some passwords didn't meet the new criteria and fell into limbo.  You might try to reset the existing password on the Weather Underground website and replace it with a password that meets the new criteria.  If you put that new password into WeatherCat that might solve your problem.  It has for other WeatherCat users.

Let us know what you discover!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Current status in WeatherCat says Error.

I will try resetting password at WU.

THANK YOU for your help!

WU Passwords have to be simple, with no special characters.

I updated password at WU and then entered it into WC Prefs. Pressed Stop button and then Start button and now Current Status is Running!

WU has my station back online! [bounce]

Big Thanks for all your help!!

That is great news.

BTW - I have never been able to get the Email to work on WC.
Whenever I click on test email it comes back with check SMPT settings.
If you don't mind sharing your email domain (gmail, yahoo, me, etc) with us, we can help troubleshoot.

I use me.com.
I've got the email working now for the first time since using WC.  [cheer]
I carefully read instructions in appendix 2 of WC manual.
I found that suggestion in a forum question about email.

Glad to hear it. Nothing beats the manual!

;) . . . .Yes indeed, you can try oil, glue, bobby pins, duct tape, even gorilla tape, but when all those things fail . . . . . .

There really is no alternative but to read the instructions!!   Oh da' shame!!

I think you left out the most important solution: bailing wire! Besides, who has access to "instructions" when 'out & about'?! If you need instructions, the device is poorly designed!!!  [banghead]

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
